Beauty can attract attention.
But a commercial food image must direct it.

The honeycomb is not the largest element in this composition. It becomes the visual priority because it carries the warmest, most saturated colour in an otherwise neutral scene.

The plate, linen and background support the product.

For a food brand, this visual hierarchy matters: when the product is recognised first, the image becomes clearer and more effective at communicating its value.

🔴 Try this in your next shoot:

— reserve the strongest warmth for the product;
— reduce saturation in the supporting elements;
— check the image at thumbnail size: what do you notice first?

That first visual answer can shape how the entire product is perceived.

What caught your attention first?

A — the honeycomb
B — the botanical shadow

A beautiful product image can still promote the wrong product.

In this composition, your eye reaches the fennel first.

Its size, vertical direction, brighter surface and intricate texture give it greater visual weight. The pottery is visible—but it plays a supporting role.

That works perfectly if you are presenting food.

But if the plate is the product you want customers to notice, remember or consider buying, the same composition works against your goal.

The problem is visual hierarchy.

🔴 Before styling a product, ask:

What must the viewer notice first?

Every prop, texture, colour and direction should strengthen that answer—not compete with it.

Strategic composition does more than make an image attractive. It guides attention towards the product whose value you need the customer to perceive.

✨ In this image, what would you be selling?

A — FOOD
B — POTTERY
