Dear Friends,
it's time for the last story of my Svalbard adventure. It does feel as the trip went from great to greatest. It was a thrilling one through and through. And now I'm considering a return trip some time soon just to soak up the place in different time of the year.
Some of you know I'm a dog person. And not just the usual 'I like dogs' person, I'm more the crazy 'Hey, there is a dog, let's throw myself to the ground and play (getting the face licked off is part of the game)'... This is probably the biggest revelation of my personality on Tom's Tales but I guess I wanted to do that so you can understand the excitement from this particular adventure.
So... Dogs. I was in my element the moment I arrived to the dog yard. Time to get my team ready, 6 dogs harnessed and hooked up to the sled. The dogs are jumping up and down with excitement, some even have to be wrestled a bit (in a very friendly way) just to try to keep them at their position and avoid a big barking furry ball of your team tangled in the lines. Ok, time to go... I'm going last, 3 other sleds ahead of me. What a joy! Standing on the sled runners, holding on on the bumpy track and balancing the sled on the slopes and in the turns. Time to time I'm jumping off the sled and run alongside or push the sled to help at steeper climbs. And all that with an overwhelming scenery all around you.
After couple of hours we arrive to a lunch spot. I'm finishing my lunch in minutes and swapping the warmth of the igloo for some dog play time. Yes, the others on the trip thought I was a bit weird but who cares. I had time to play and also take some photos for you to enjoy as well.
So there you go, hope you like them. It was the best way I could have finished my whole trip. It made me leave Svalbard full of joy and I knew I would be coming back.
Sincerely,
Tom
