Groundbreaking Ceremony – Naqara Jetty, Ono District, Kadavu
The Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Naqara Jetty marks a historic milestone for the people of the Ono District in the Province of Kadavu. This special occasion celebrates the beginning of construction of the first wharf ever to be built in the district, symbolizing progress, improved connectivity, and greater opportunities for the communities of Ono.
For many generations, the people of Ono have relied on small landing points and traditional methods of sea transportation. The construction of the Naqara Jetty will greatly improve safe and reliable access for boats and vessels, allowing easier transportation of people, goods, and essential services to and from the district.
This project represents an important step toward strengthening links between Kadavu and the rest of Fiji, supporting economic growth, trade, tourism, and community development for present and future generations.
The people of Ono District sincerely acknowledge and express their heartfelt gratitude to the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry, Hon. Alitia Bainivalu, for her support and commitment to the development of maritime infrastructure that benefits rural and maritime communities.
Special appreciation is also extended to Fiji Pine Trust for their contribution and support toward making this project possible. Their assistance demonstrates a strong partnership in supporting sustainable development and improving the livelihoods of the people of Kadavu.
The Naqara Jetty will stand as a lasting symbol of progress, unity, and collaboration, bringing together government, partners, and the community to build a better future for the people of Ono and the wider Province of Kadavu.
The Moment that will be carved into History....54 years ago our forefathers had a great vision ....and today even when they are gone [RIP] their Legacy still lives on, and will echo into history.
