Yet fewer than 7,000 remain in the wild, making them one of Africa’s most endangered carnivores.
Habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict, disease, and habitat fragmentation continue to threaten their survival. Conservation efforts across Africa are working to protect landscapes, connect fragmented populations, and help communities coexist with these remarkable animals.
Every pack saved helps preserve not just a species, but the delicate balance of entire ecosystems.

Often misunderstood, the spotted hyena is one of Africa’s most important wildlife species. As both a skilled hunter and efficient scavenger, hyenas help keep ecosystems healthy by removing carcasses, recycling nutrients, and limiting the spread of disease across the savannah.
Despite their reputation, spotted hyenas are highly intelligent, social animals with complex family structures and remarkable problem-solving abilities. Protecting them means protecting the balance of Africa’s wild landscapes.
