At the edge of the abyss, where the land shatters into the Atlantic. The sun rises over Miradouro do Abismo — and for a few fleeting minutes, everything is on fire.

Between the last breath of sunset and the silence of night, the sky caught fire in purple. Not the purple of dusk but something stranger, deeper. A bruised violet draped across the bay like an aurora that had lost its way south, bleeding into pink at the horizon before dissolving into the cold blue of the waiting dark.
Thirty seconds. The shutter stayed open long enough for the bay to become a mirror, for the causeway to shed every trace of movement, for time itself to slow into something you could almost hold.
Mont Saint-Michel stands at the end of it, glowing faintly, as if it called this light into being.

Mont Saint-Michel at sunrise, captured from the salt marshes with the silhouette of the abbey and a lone bare tree rising against a blazing golden sky. The sun sits low on the horizon, its reflection caught in the still water of a marsh channel cutting through the foreground. The warm amber and deep orange tones completely flood the scene, turning the sky into something almost celestial, fitting for a place dedicated to the Archangel Michael.

6 AM. Étretat. 🌞
Just you, the wind, and the most dramatic cliffs in France. Not a soul in sight. You feel like an explorer. A pioneer. Dare I say a legend 😅

5 PM. Same cliffs.⛰️
Thousands of people. A kid with a waffle on your tripod foot. Someone's been standing in your frame for 11 minutes. A dog is investigating your camera bag.
But, hey: there's ice cream 😅

Moral of the story: wake up early, or lower your photographic expectations and get a scoop. 🍦

Long after the last pilgrim has passed, the road still carries their traces, streaks of light rushing toward the mount, as if drawn by something ancient and magnetic. One solitary figure stands still against the flow, watching. Some journeys are made in meditation.

The marsh leads nowhere, and yet, it leads there. To that shape suspended in the mist, neither quite real, nor quite dreamed. Just present, like a promise the day has not yet kept.

The forest lets itself be carried away.
Trees blur into strokes of ink, and beneath them, the first bluebells of spring paint the ground in whispers of violet.
Not a photograph: an impression.

At the edge of the day, when the sun surrenders to the horizon, this ancient tree stands witness, arms outstretched, reaching for a sky on fire. The field stretches endlessly, a sea of deep green swallowed by the dying light.
Some places don't need a crowd. Some beauty belongs to the silence.

Some spring mornings, the forest blooms in silence. Beneath the ancient oaks of Rambouillet, a sea of bluebells has swallowed the forest floor whole blue, wild, almost unreal. The light came in slow and soft, threading through the branches like a whisper. I set up the tripod, held my breath, and let the forest do the rest.

Rooted in gold

Some mornings, the light doesn't simply rise: it ignites. That morning at l'Orme au Berger, the sun chose this solitary tree as its first altar. Standing there for decades, it greets the dawn as if it had been waiting for it all along.
