A few more pictures from Les Vans with the Carl Zeiss Jena Prakticar 2.4/35 at f/8. This time reversed: The last picture with the CZJ Prakticar 135mm is from Labeaume.
The 2.4/35 — properly centered — is really great fun.

Today the Pump Track World Championships qualifiers took place in Köngen. I took a little time now and then to shoot a few photos with several different lenses — mainly the 4/300, 2.8/200 and 1.8/80 — and I shot everything at f/8. Luckily for the shutter speed, everything was in bright sunlight. Or not so lucky, because it was very hot. I love heat and felt perfectly at ease in the sun, but unfortunately that's not true for everyone.

That said, I have to say that even with these old lenses — of course still without autofocus — you can focus quite well. You didn't even need Sony's focus peaking. You can really "pull" focus nicely when the riders are coming toward you. And a fast burst mode helps enormously, because you can fine-tune directly from the preview of the previous shot. It's almost like live focus.

I ended up with 2,400 images, although I have to admit that about 50% are rejects. I can't really compare it to autofocus, since sports photography isn't my field and I don't own any modern lenses.

I'd like to write more about the event, but I was so occupied with my equipment that I can't say much — it's almost embarrassing. I think a German participant won in the men's category.

Some vertical photos from Labeaume. Such a quaint little place that it’s already brought me there three times. So many maze-like alleys in such a small area, houses with tunnels, and even in the height of the heat a pleasant coolness between the stone walls. And I finally used the CZJ Prakticar 2.4/35 lens. I actually struggled a bit with the centering, but surprisingly I was able to center it myself fairly easily — three small screws on the front lens group, focused at infinity, and the corners were "screwed" into sharpness. The lens was deliberately designed so that it can be centered quite well. Since I only photographed buildings here, f/8 of course made sense; however the lens also delivers strong close-up performance with beautiful bokeh, so there will certainly be more of that to come.
The last picture is not Labeaume but the church in Les Vans.

At the Actinidias campsite on the Chassezac there was a small surprise this year: a young crow! It showed up there and visits every campsite visitor. The campsite owners also take loving care of her. A really funny moment was when she picked up a cigarette butt and put it in the trash bag. Here she was visiting other friends who were also at the campsite and was inspecting toys.

A dragonfly at the Bürgerseen. Unfortunately I can't determine the exact species, but it shouldn't be a broad-bodied chaser (Plattbauch), because the typical wing pattern isn't present and more abdominal segments are black. It's also not a four-spotted chaser (Vierfleck), and it can't be a large blue hawker/darner either, since those don't have such a noticeable darker shading at the base of the wings.

a show fight at the Stauferspektakel in Göppingen. Done with the CZJ Prakticar 1.8/80 at f/2.8 on the Sony a7III. Manual focusing is working pretty good. Not sure for what I would need autofocus here. The fight was of course not authentic, but pretty funny and nice to watch. And the 1.8/80 delivers pictures I think comparable pretty well with modern lenses.
