Second View 1.2 is out. Build your own control panel, freeze the frame and a lot more.

Most of it came from user feedback, a lot of it from large format shooters.

WORKSPACES: arrange the controls you use, per kit, switch with a swipe.
FREEZE MODE: hold a still and compose rise and shift, spot meter, measure distance, without the scene moving.
CUSTOM FILM STOCKS: your own stocks, your own reciprocity curve, plus an ECN-2 category.
BELLOWS COMPENSATION: close-focus light loss folded into the reading, by distance or by extension.
And more !

Not a camera app. It does not take your photos. It shows you the shot before you spend the frame.

4 new improvements for my custom technical camera.

1️⃣ New Copal / Compur 0 lens board. First, an infinity lens board (fixed focus), with an optional spacer to focus at the hyperfocal . When I receive my helicoid mount to focus, I will make an M39 version of the lens board.

2️⃣ A much stronger Arca plate with an additional bubble level.

3️⃣ The 1/4 support is shifted to the left to avoid interfering with the RB67 back when it is in portrait position. I also made a version of the support specifically for the SmallRig cold shoe to keep it straight.

4️⃣ Ground glass much brighter thanks to a low-cost Fresnel lens (thanks to for the tips)

New specs of the camera:
* Back: Graflok 23 (Mamiya RB67, Horseman, etc.)
* Formats: 645, 6x6, 6x7, 6x8, 6x9
* Lens board:
* Mamiya Press
* Copal / Compur 0
* Rise / Fall: ±20mm
* Left / Right shift: ±20mm

Let’s try the V4 of my technical camera and my app Second View.

Specs of the camera:
* Back: Graflok 23 (Mamiya RB67, Horseman, etc.)
* Formats: 645, 6x6, 6x7, 6x8, 6x9
* Lens: Mamiya Press (Copal 0 soon)
* Rise / Fall: ±20mm
* Left / Right shift: ±20mm

The app is available for iOS (App Store) and Android (Play Store) right now!

Three versions and hundreds of iterations later, here’s my 3D printed technical camera.

For the v4, I started from scratch: fewer unique parts, a design as symmetrical as possible, and still one more movement. On top of rise and fall, it now has left and right shift.

Specs:
* Back: Graflok 23 (Mamiya RB67, Horseman, etc.)
* Formats: 645, 6x6, 6x7, 6x8, 6x9
* Lens: Mamiya Press (Copal 0 soon)
* Rise / Fall: ±20mm
* Left / Right shift: ±20mm

Now I need your help with distribution: sell the files, or sell it assembled and tested? I honestly don’t know yet.

The most complete light meter app 📲 Here’s how to meter with Second View.

Here’s the full metering workflow:
🎞️ Set your ISO by hand or just pick a film stock, the meter follows
🌐 Global meter for the whole scene, reads continuously from the preview
🎯 Spot meter by tapping anywhere on screen, long-press to jump back to global
🔆 Add ND, CPL or any filter and the speed compensates automatically. Stack as many as you want
⚙️ Show shutter speed or EV, your call in the settings
⏱️ Going long? The reciprocity correction is built in for 60+ film stocks, so your metered time is the real time
🎚️ Calibrate against a white wall or your own reference meter for spot-on readings

Everything a handheld meter does, plus the framing and the math, in the device already in your pocket.

How to shoot film without a light meter and a ground glass?

📲 Second View v1.1 is here.

I’m testing it on the new NNC67 V3.1 with Kodak Tri-X, but it works with any setup.

Here’s what it does in the field:

📐 See exactly what your camera will capture, in the right aspect ratio. Every film format covered!
🎯 Spot meter by tapping anywhere on the preview
↕️ Shift & rise to simulate view camera movements in real time
⏱️ Long exposure timer that does the reciprocity math for you across 60+ film stocks
🧩 Panoramic stitching. Plan multi-shot panos with shifted plates and see how they’ll line up
🎞️ Log your whole roll so you never lose track of a shot
🫧 Bubble level and grid to get your camera dead straight
✅ Pre-shot checklist so you never forget the dark slide again

The proof? Second View preview vs the actual lab scan, portrait and landscape, at the end of the video.

NNC67 (No Name Camera 6x7, still looking for a better name but here we are) V3 is done. New lock system, new shift mechanism, new trigger cable mount.

The shift runs on an 8mm lead screw: two and a half turns for 20mm of travel. Faster and more precise than V2.

Still a DIY build, still very much a work in progress but I’m getting closer to something I’d feel confident putting in other people’s hands.

Specs:
* Back mount: Graflok 23 (Mamiya RB67, Horseman etc.)
* Lens mount: Mamiya Press (Copal 0 and more coming)
* Rise / Fall: 20mm
* Cable release magnetic mount
* 6x cold shoe mounts
* 6x 1/4” threads
* 2x 1/4” threads for side handle
* Arca swiss rail + 1/4” tripod mount

If you’re interested in getting one when I figure out how to make that happen, there’s a form in my bio. No commitment, just a way to stay in the loop.
