It never was.

The Noctilux 50mm f/1 is about atmosphere. About how a subject separates from the world around it. Not cut out, but slowly revealed.

This lens shaped the way I see and photograph. Not because it’s perfect, but because it isn’t.

Noctilux, not about perfection

I’ve never really followed trends in photography.

With the recent Noctilux 35 release, I went back into my archive and revisited some of my earlier work with these lenses.

For me, the Noctilux was never about perfection. It has a certain softness, a bit of rock ’n roll, something that feels less controlled and more alive.

Over time, it became part of how I approach portrait work. Not as something to show, but as a way to build atmosphere and tell a story.
