From fencers 🤺 to opera singers 🎶 to dancers 💃🏻 in costumes to fireworks, it was absolutely magical.

I had visited the castle multiple times but at night it is just even more beautiful. I felt like I was discovering this beautiful historical monument all over again.

Memories for a lifetime 🥰💫

In an instant your photograph can change. In an instant, this beautiful black swan went from the regal position that you can see in the last post to providing itself with a toilette in this one.

I took many photographs in between this post and the last. Many were not successful. That is the thing with photography and the arts in general for me - letting go of perfectionism.

No, I will not take 10 perfect photographs in a second. Yes I could just take one photograph and move on but what’s the point of that - you might miss an extraordinary moment. So I take as many as my heart desires, changing the angles, the zooms, etc.

I don’t know what the result will be but I’m ok with that because my eye, gut and heart are telling me to take this photo in this way. I hardly look at the camera screen. I try not to linger and focus on it because then I won’t be photographing with my eyes but with a biased sight where the brain is making it all about how not to make a mistake again.

Instead I wait for when I come home. I download the photographs and scan them - I now keep all of the originals (the “good” and the “to be improved”). I see what worked and didn’t. That’s where I take the time to learn - ah movement I need to work on, this lighting was not good, too blurry etc etc. And then I go and read about tips and lessons to improve those areas. It is also when a shot you didn’t think would turn out well was actually the best one - those moments are incredible because the intent at the time was not as strong and yet as a result, I know that shot might never have existed.

The elegant black swan

I love this type of photography - a sort of portraiture where you want to control the action but you can’t. You have to go with the flow and capture as rapidly and creatively as possible an animal in the wild. And this particular one did not want to be disturbed during its morning toilette.

La rosée sur la feuille (Zoom in and Zoom out) 💧 🍃

One of my first loves of photography was macro nature photography. I’m picturing, as I’m writing this, not just the rolling waves, majestic mountains or divine sunsets, but also those incredible raindrops with reflections in them.

I by no mean am at that level but it’s something I strive to do. I remember for this particular photograph seeing the raindrops on the leaf and wanting to capture the difference in texture. I spent so long on various plants (roses, petals, leafs, trees) we were running late to the scheduled visit of the castle 😂

I did have technical difficulty when I tried going even closer to the subject because my lens would lose focus - if anyone has any tips on macro / nature photography I would love to discuss 🤩 always looking to learn !
