Last Sunday we started our hike at Riederalp (1925m alt.). We walked to Riederfurka (2065m alt.) - Hohfluh (2227m alt.) - Moosfluh (2333m alt.) - Bergstation Bettmerhorn (2647m alt.) were me made our lunch break. Then back down to Bettmersee (2006m alt.) - Bettmeralp (1950 m alt.) - and back to Riederalp.

A hike that amazed us from beginning to end, with constantly changing landscapes, crossing fields, forests, rocky paths, and even sime path still a bit of snow, culminating in a refreshing break by the Bettmersee lake 🍻.

We also took the opportunity to try one of the region’s culinary specialties at Bettmerhorn Station.

the ”Walliser Cholera” (also called in dialect ”Chouera”, originally from the Goms valley). It’s a traditional, savory-sweet Swiss pie originating from the Canton of Valais. It features a buttery, flaky pastry crust filled with a layered mixture of sliced potatoes, apples, leeks, onions, and rich Valais Raclette or mountain cheese.

We already had the pleasure of spending a weekend in this paradise in winter; now we were able to discover this place in summer as well, and this time even with good weather.
Here you’ll find everything your heart desires 😁 Dreamlike views, many activities for young and old, relaxation, good food, happy people.

👉 Would you rather spend winter or summer in this place? 👈

I prefer summer because I love the long and mild days, the birdsong, the vibrant colors, the smell of freshly cut grass...

In the Next days I will share the Beautiful Hike in this magical area 🥾🏔️💚

How do we choose our hikes?
We choose a location on the map, and from there we decide which route to take.

Yesterday we couldn’t get to our planned location, so we took “plan B“. We drove 15 minutes further to Elm (977m altitude). From there, we took the cable car up to Ämpächli (1485m altitude). During our coffee break, before starting the hike, we chose our route and opted for the « Chüebodensee Round-Trip Hike » which takes 4 hours.
The walk up to Gelb Chopf (2117m altitude) and Chüebodensee takes about 2 hours. For the last few meters, we had knee-deep snow 😅, and the lake was still covered in snow and ice. During our lunch break, we took the opportunity to let our shoes and socks dry a bit 😆🫢
After the break, we descended towards Ober Ampächli (1742 m altitude) where we saw lots of chamois 😍. Instead of going back down to the cable car station, we decided to add the « Rundwanderung Hengstboden », towards Matthüttli (1740 m altitude), about 1.5 hours more 🥾. On this beautiful panoramic path, we spotted lot of marmots 😍. We made a short stop for refreshments 🍻 in Bischofalp (1645 m altitude). Back at the station, we walked down to Elm, so another hour of walking 😁
In conclusion : again an amazing hike in this magnificent canton of Glarus ❤️
