🏆🪸 Honoured to receive the Creative Vision Pascal Lecocq Award at the Ocean Geographic Picture of the Year for one of my "WE ARE CORALS" portraits.

Thank you so much to the whole Ocean Geographic Society team for this recognition, and thank you Alice Arthaud for being part of this image.

WE ARE CORALS is an artistic project where I merge a human portrait with coral photographed in fluorescence. A visual chimera, created through photography, to question our place within the living world.

For me, this project is a way of bringing art and science together:

to speak about the origins of life, our deep connection to other species, and to share something that is sometimes difficult to explain with words alone.

Corals have shaped life in the ocean for millions of years.
What if they could also inspire the way we live, create, and protect?

This award also marks the beginning of a larger photographic journey :

I am now developing "WE ARE CORALS" with inspiring figures working to protect the marine world. Soon Dr Jamie Craggs Charlotte Meyer Sofiane Benyahia, Luciole ...

If this universe resonates with you, and if you’d like to imagine a portrait, an exhibition, or a meaningful collaboration, feel free to reach out.

Happy to share this portrait published in Imertium’s Gazette.

In this interview, I speak about my journey as a marine biologist and photographer, and about what has driven me for years: bringing art and science together to tell stories about coral, the living world, and our connection to the sea.

Thank you to the IMERTIUM team for the invitation, and to Géraldine Gevaudan for this conversation. 🤗

Thank you Jules Roeser for the portrait pictures. 😉 And for being my WE ARE CORAL model to do the cover!

And if you’d like to step further into my world, feel free to subscribe to my Blue Letter, my monthly newsletter about coral, water, photography, and the living world. 💙I put the link in comment.

I’m happy to share this beautiful story published by Canon Europe about the Canon Young People Programme project I had the chance to lead with young people from Les Enfants de la Goutte d’Or in Paris.

Together, we explored coral conservation through photography, discovery, and emotion.

Over three days, we travelled to Nausicaa Centre National de la Mer and the coast near Calais, using images as a way to connect with the ocean and with the living world. For some of the teenagers, it was their first time seeing the sea.

I’m deeply grateful to Canon, to Les Enfants de la Goutte d’Or, and to everyone who made this project possible. These are the kinds of experiences that remind me why I do this work.

My Indonesian friend Agung Wibowo went to visit my photographic exhibition CORAL at the Natural History Museum of La Rochelle… and he sent me this photo of his daughter, fully captivated, observing coral under a microscope.

This is exactly why we create exhibitions: to spark curiosity, build connections, and inspire a deeper understanding of the living world.

📍 If you’re visiting La Rochelle, the exhibition is still on, and you can go discover it.

Thank you Agung for this beautiful share. 🙏
