A Gorgeous View! The Cairngorms, Aviemore, taken 2 years ago. .

The Cairngorms (Scottish Gaelic: Am Monadh Ruadh) are a mountain range in the eastern Highlands of Scotland closely associated with the mountain Cairn Gorm. The Cairngorms became part of Scotland's second national park (the Cairngorms National Park) on 1 September 2003.

Although the Cairngorms give their name to, and are at the heart of, the Cairngorms National Park, they only form one part of the national park, alongside other hill ranges such as the Angus Glens and the Monadhliath, and lower areas like Strathspey.

The shipwreck at Corpach, Fort William

Just outside of the town of Fort William, lying majestically amongst shingle and sand is the Corpach shipwreck. This great fishing vessel rests on Caol Beach, overlooked by Ben Nevis, the tallest mountain in the whole of the United Kingdom.

A former fishing boat that sits, unmoved, at an odd angle on the shore of Loch Linnhe, residents of the town of Caol near Fort William discovered this odd wreck in 2011. Whilst local lore suggests it emerged from stormy waters to take in the majesty of nearby Ben Nevis, no one has ever fully understood why the boat – built in 1975 – emerged from the water and onto the shore. In its day it was a fishing vessel called MV Dayspring.

A view down Loch Affric

A great walk, just under 12 miles around Loch Affric, in Glen Affric

Glen Affric is a magical mix of native woods, glistening lochs and haunting moorland. It features over 30 miles of ancient pinewoods and is one of the largest ancient Caledonian pine woods in Scotland. You can wander amongst the pine trees accompanied by the chirpy calls of woodland birds. Elsewhere you might encounter ospreys, secretive otters or red- and black-throated divers.
