Nothing very original with the locations, but on my first trip I was looking to get those big bucket list destinations ticked off, and I am very happy with how these turned out. Ever since I first learnt about The Faroe Islands as a child, this small cluster of islands in the North Atlantic have been a bucket list destination for me. Something about them just seemed so otherworldly, remote yet beautiful. Finally, in 2026, after decades of waiting, and years of watching their popularity grow on social media, I finally got my own chance to experience the islands first hand. As I relax on the 41 hour boat to Denmark (another bucket list item for me) and reflect on my very short but spectacular visit, I can’t help but wonder, when will I be back? Sooner rather than later, for sure.

HACKLEY BAY •• Hidden away on the Aberdeenshire coast, this spectacular bay is off the beaten track for most. About a 45 minute walk from the car park, you could almost be guaranteed to enjoy the sunrise here without another soul in sight. •• Have you ever visited this amazing place? ••

FIRST LIGHT •• 05:00am alarm set for an Angus adventure. This was my first time at Lunan Bay in years and it didn’t disappoint, especially with the low tide exposing so much interesting areas to investigate at the north end of beach. The light was harsh by the time I got there so no great photos this time but I know I’ll be heading straight there on my next visit. •• Have you been here yet? ••

THE FORGOTTEN BOTHY •• Can you take yourself back in time and imagine the scenes that have played out before this view. This area is a fascinating mix of nature and industrial past, and I can only imagine the hive of activity this site once must have been. Nowadays, the left over carved rocks make such an interesting site, and there’s so much potential for more exploring, for me and the drone! Be back soon. •• •• Have you visited this location before?

SLAINS CASTLE •• •• A popular spot on the Aberdeenshire coastline, and for good reason. I’ve took plenty of photos here over the years but I’m loving this drone view captured at sunrise. The coastline snakes through the image, leading straight to the castle, centred in the scene, watching over the waves of the magnificent North Sea. •• Let me know down below if you have enjoyed this image.
