The overlooked ones ๐ŸŒฟ

Spotted during an evening wander around Loch Etive with The Valenti View this little visitor turned out to be a caddisfly.

They might not get the attention of dragonflies or butterflies, but caddisflies have a pretty impressive story. As larvae, many species live underwater and build protective cases from tiny stones, sand, twigs and other materials they find around them. Some are so well camouflaged you'd never know they were there.

This adult was resting quietly amongst the reeds as the light faded over the loch. A tiny creature, but another reminder that there's a whole world of wildlife hiding in plain sight if you're willing to slow down and look a little closer.

The Truth About Macro Photography ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ“ธ

People think macro photography is all about expensive cameras, specialist lenses and fancy lighting.

The truth?

A lot of the time it's just having someone beside you who spots things before you do. ๐Ÿ˜†

On our Loch Etive trip in Ravenheim, Teri kept finding tiny subjects hidden in plain sight. Things I would have walked straight past without a second glance.

These bright red mites were tucked away in a quartz seam in the rocks, living out their tiny lives in a world most people never notice.

Sometimes the best bit of macro photography isn't the camera.

It's having someone nearby who says...

"Dave... come look at this." ๐Ÿ”โค๏ธ๐Ÿ“ธ

A Tiny Highland Discovery ๐Ÿฆ—๐Ÿ“ธ

While staying in Ravenheim at Loch Etive, The Valenti View and I spent the evening wandering with our cameras, seeing what we could find hidden amongst the grasses and woodland edges.

Perched quietly on a stem was this tiny planthopper, likely a Cixius species. Easy to miss at first glance, but through a macro lens it becomes something else entirely.

Ruby-red eyes, delicate stained-glass wings and details that look more at home in a fantasy world than the Scottish Highlands.

It's one of the things I love most about macro photography. The closer you look, the more you realise there's an entire hidden world living alongside us.

It's been a while since I posted some macro photography, but a weekend away in Ravenheim with The Valenti View soon fixed that. ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ“ธ

We parked up near Glen Etive and Loch Etive, spent the evening wandering with cameras in hand, and as usual it wasn't the big landscapes that stole the show.

Tucked away on a leaf was this incredible little sawfly, looking more like something from a sci-fi film than a Scottish campsite. The closer I looked, the more details appeared. The colours, the patterns, the texture of those eyes... an entire hidden world sitting a few centimetres from the path.

Sometimes the smallest subjects tell the biggest stories.

Absolute ramp goblin in the best possible way.
Launching into transitions, carving lines out of nowhere, and throwing himself at the ramps like heโ€™s been welded to the board since birth.

Style for days too. Every run looked smooth right up until the moment your brain catches up and realises how wild it actually was.

Big respect for letting me chase the chaos with a camera ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿค˜

Sat up on the wall like it owned the woodland, silently judging every passer-by while soaking up the sun.

Honestly looked like an enchanted forest NPC guarding a side quest ๐Ÿ˜„๐ŸŒฟ

40 laps around the sunโ€ฆ and waking up to this felt like the universe saying โ€œcarry on.โ€ ๐ŸŒ…๐Ÿ•๏ธ

Still water at Milarrochy Bay.
Morning mist rolling across Loch Lomond.
Coffee in hand, Ravenheim parked up, and i beside me while the world slowly woke up around us.

Couldnโ€™t have asked for a better way to start my 40th.
Quiet. Simple. Real.

These are the moments that matter. ๐Ÿ‚

Looks like it was carved from bark and woodland dust. Amazing what you find when you slow down for a minute and actually look.

Cold air, muddy paths, golden woodland lightโ€ฆ then this absolute beauty appearing through the trees like it owned the whole forest.

One of those quiet little moments that ends up becoming the memory from the day.

A quieter kind of beauty tonight ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ’›

No dramatic skies.
No rush.
Just soft light, still air, and the first signs that the worldโ€™s waking up again.

Sometimes peace looks this simple.
