This morning's sea was very calm with the gentlest of wavelets lapping on the sand. It made me think of more dramatic wave days, and as I was looking through my archives for another project I came across these from September 2016.

Memories of a special evening up at Holy Island causeway “on this day”some years ago.

There were oyster catchers piping
And the curlew's mournful cry
To this day they still transport me
Underneath an evening sky

Back in 2010 I arrived at my favourite sunrise spot and there was a photographer already down on the beach waiting for sunrise. I preferred to hang back and have the water in the foreground (and the photographer in the photo).

There was a perfect reflection of the clouds so I kept the horizon in the centre. I took one shot and then a wave wound its way up the channel and obliterated the reflection as it passed. I got one more shot (this one) before the reflection was gone.

I like this photo. There is a wee story and a bit of life from the wave rolling into the picture stirring up the calm waters.

It’s World Oceans Day so here’s a montage of our little corner of the North Sea in its various moods. 🌊

The sea’s a restless spirit
Sometimes angry
Sometimes kind
But now you’re here
Safe and sound
At journey’s end

Twelve photos of people on the Northumberland coast.

I enjoy people as part of the landscape going about their lives, just doing what they're doing.
