Andrew Macdonald Photography Photograher and cinematograoher I’m a wildlife photographer and videographer based in Cape Town, originally from Scotland.

For the last nine years I’ve travelled across Africa capturing the stories of luxury safari lodges, conservation projects and the people who protect these wild places. My work has taken me from the jungles of Congo to the South Pole in Antarctica, creating films and imagery for leading brands and conservation agencies throughout Africa. I also host photographic safaris across the continent, guidin

g guests through some of the best wildlife destinations while teaching practical photography skills and the full creative workflow behind my images and videos. Most of my shoots are done with my fiancée Sarah, who brings her eye for stills while I focus more on video. Together we aim to produce visuals with real emotion, real stories and a genuine connection to the wild places we visit. If wildlife, travel and behind-the-scenes stories from safari are your thing, you’ll feel right at home here. Join one of my upcoming safaris here:

Part 1 of 3: Kingdom of Lions

Last year, Sarah and I spent time in the Busanga Plains of Kafue National Park creating content for African Parks and Wilderness.

Known for its vast floodplains, incredible lion populations and dramatic landscapes, Busanga is one of Africa's great wilderness areas.

This first episode follows our time photographing and filming lions across the plains as we begin exploring one of Zambia's most remarkable safari destinations.

After a decade of filming and photographing across Africa, I’ve finally put together a showreel featuring some of my favourite moments from the wild.

These are the moments that have stayed with me over the years.

A huge thank you to all the camps, guides, trackers, pilots, crews, and friends who have shared these experiences with me along the way.

Just got back from one of the wildest assignments I’ve ever had out in Congo with African Parks.

This wasn’t your typical safari… we spent time with a team working on gorilla habituation, slowly introducing wild gorillas to the presence of humans. It’s a process that takes years, and being able to witness even a small part of it was pretty special.

There weren’t loads of easy sightings or “perfect” moments, but that’s kind of the point. It’s raw, unpredictable, and a proper look at what conservation work actually feels like on the ground.

I hope you enjoy it.

If these lion cubs don’t brighten up your day, nothing will.

We knew one of the lionesses in the pride was hiding very fresh cubs, she hadn’t been seen for a few days.

Eventually we followed some of the other pride members and they led us straight to her.

The cubs were only a couple of weeks old. What a moment.

Today I am deeply saddened to hear about the death of Africa’s most famous elephant, Craig the super tusker.

I am incredibly grateful that I was lucky enough to meet him in 2024. The phrase “gentle giant” does not quite do him justice. Being in his presence was humbling and deeply emotional. To possess such immense power yet choose to live peacefully is a lesson many humans could learn from.

I do take some comfort in knowing that Craig died from natural causes and lived a full life. At 54 years old, it is likely that he had worn down his final set of teeth, which sadly would have led to his passing.

He was not just an elephant. He was an icon and an ambassador for the natural world, touching countless lives and inspiring people across the globe, especially those fortunate enough to encounter him.

Thank you for the memories.

Rest easy, Craig

Moments from a special sighting in Botswana.

Shooting conditions were hard. We had the sun shining directly into our lenses with the lions in the shade.

I decided to use some foreground grass that was catching to sun to add a pop of colour to the images.

Another beautiful day in Africa.
