During the October holidays we went to Cornwall and on the day when we were not looking for any beach, in particular, we found Gwithian beach, we came across it a few days after storm Brian hit the coast of Cornwall. It’s the first time I have ever seen really big waves, on that day they were somewhere between 12-14 feet tall.

The waves crashing created mist that rolled across the beach. The muted tones loo black and white, but this is straight out of the camera.

Comments welcome Jack

This is a picture that we took while meeting up with friends in just outside the village of Eastby. Dad was hoping Dave Dimmock could show him a few Dippers on the river Wharfe. I like this part of the country because it is very hilly and rugged, unlike Hampshire which does not offer as many diverse landscapes.

We were there looking for a small bird called a Dipper which can be regularly spotted at the bottom of the valley by the river Wharfe running through it. I was intentionally looking for a different style of photography as I will need to have a range of styles for my GCSE photography course and while the topic is architecture, I saw this opportunity for a photograph through a hand laid stone wall.

Comments welcome good or bad.

This picture was taken at Brownsea Island, one of the last remaining strongholds in Southern England that you can see red squirrels. In the UK numbers declined for some reasons, in particular, a parapoxvirus that is passed from the non-native grey squirrel. Unfortunately, this virus is something that the red squirrels have no immunity to and lead to a rather painful death that can wipe out entire colonies.

While this virus is not present at Brownsea because there are no Grey Squirrels, the red squirrels carry a form of leprosy, this will not wipe out the population, however, it could kill the weak ones. In this picture the ears of the female Red shows it does have this virus.

Some pictures I have done for my "O" Level photography, the subject was selective coloring, hope you like them Jack Cox

This is a picture of a Red Squirrel which are extinct in most parts of the UK. We got to see them because Brownsea is managed to ensure it has no ground-based predators or Grey Squirrels. Grey Squirrels carry a disease called Squirrel pox and Red Squirrels have no immunity to this disease and it can wipe out complete colonies very quickly. We saw 3-4 squirrels out of approx 200, we think as it was hot most of them stayed in their drays sleeping.
