MEL Hughes Photography A journey, capturing the heart and soul of where I go. I really enjoyed taking photos of what I was enjoying at that very moment. I hope you enjoy it.

For as long as I can remember I have had a love and respect for nature and in turn when I became a father I have always taken my children to places I have loved from they were babies and something I continue to do so.
19th October 2014, the first anniversary of the death of my father. Still trying to deal with loss, I decided to go for a walk (with my family of course) around my spiritual home of

Carnagh Forest with a little pocket camera in hand as I wanted to capture so photos of the details of trees as I wanted to get back into art. Obviously the photos were not very good, but that moment planted a seed. Come January 2015, I bought a little bridge camera with the purpose of making more of an effort to capture the feeling and soul of the woods that I visited. I found that being mindful in the moment of time helped me cope with the loss of my father and other people I loved whom I lost, my mum some 10 years before which I had never fully gotten over. Photography has also helped me cope with depression that I have suffered from around the age of 18 due to loosing my hearing and trying to live a life in the hearing world where I have a 95% hearing loss. When I have my camera in my hand I have found that I am fully engrossed in what is in front of me and it is fantastic therapy for me. I have also found that I really love the whole aspect of photography. Visiting the quiet landscapes of Ireland, bringing them to life via my camera. Seeing them in print brings such enjoyment to me, my creation of that moment in time. Another very important aspect of this is the effect it has on others, how my photos have brightened up people’s lives and the enjoyment it brings them by looking at my prints in their own homes. For this I am truly honoured that someone would want to hang one of my pieces in their homes and the comfort of the memories it brings them, I thank you. So please, welcome to my journey through life and nature. Mel.X
(prints are available of all my nature photos, believe me what you see online does not compare to holding a print of a beauty in your hands. if you like what you see, please like my page and feel free to share my photos).

REFLECTING OF TIMES GONE BY
I fancied a bit of colour in my life today and quite frankly there isn't much outside with all that wind and rain.
This is also the time of year, where I can just sit back, enjoy the peace of my home, the comfort of wee Sadie beside me and the welcoming glowing fire we are both enjoying.
Thinking of our adventures of the past year gone by, I know it isn't over yet - but it doesn't stop me doing it many times throughout the year anyway.
I like to take stock of those good times, which help carry me when other times are not so kind. Our wee adventures from one wood to another and everything in between. Myself drinking deep the beauty of nature that I come in contact with and her ladyship just enjoying it for the playground that she has made it for herself - seeing her enjoying that freedom and to run wild without restraint.
This photo is from one of our adventures just over a month ago, the gentle wind blowing leaves etc helped create an ethereal, dreamy feeling. Which is pretty much how I feel, deep inside, when I think of spending time there.
Sometimes, all we have in life, is a photograph - which is why I love them so much.

STAR OF THE SHOW
Everyone has a part to play and this tree is definitely the centre of attention.
I'm still on a monochrome them, with lots of ethereal mist to add to the mood.
I love distinct looking trees and being in the woods, in general, is the place for me.

Adventures, pretty much like stories, have to start somewhere.
Could this be the making of one?
Imagination comes in many forms.
It's up to you and I.
Why follow someone else's when you can create your own.

A feast of mystical, monochrome glory for you
I really didn't expect anyone to like the last misty tree pic, but I imagine this one will go down like a lead balloon too, lol.
But the thing is, my photos are an expression of myself and artistic endeavors. I have an appreciation for different seasons, different moods etc. With this one I love trees obviously and with the mist I love how, as each line of trees is passed, it slowly is engulfed by it's very being. I know, my imagination knows no bounds and that's they way it should be. Any, enjoy.

Magic In The Mist.
When you are out and about doing other things, sometimes (and I stress sometimes) nature can work it's magic. After picking my son up from training there was a narrow bank of mist in the distance. So I decided to pay a wee visit to Darkley Forest as I love the twisted, fantasy wood, type trees that dwell there. The ole imagination runs riot at times like this, but when I got there, there wasn't as much mist as I hoped - but they my fantasy trees were there and as I love them anyway I took a couple of photos and here's one of them.
A lot of people will think spooky, but I'm the opposite and think dreamy, ethereal, mystical and full of magic and dreamy mystique.

Ballymacnab Chapel, County Armagh - during the day.
Another visit to this beautiful chapel. I lucked out with some class cloudscapes, which only enhance to beauty and serenity already contained here.
