There is no branding-photo police.
Nobody is coming round because your LinkedIn headshot has just celebrated its second birthday. 😂
If it still looks like you, still fits your brand and still does the job you need it to do?
Use it.
But if your business has changed and your image library hasn't kept up, that's different.
New services. New products. New premises. Different seasons. Different customers. Different things you need to talk about.
That's when photographs can become outdated even though there's absolutely nothing wrong with them.
Your branding photos don't expire on a date. They expire when they stop representing your business.

Same woman.
Same business.
Even the same doorway.
So why take another photograph?
Because they're doing completely different jobs.
One says winter.
One says summer.
Another can promote a product.
Another shows what it's actually like to work with you.
And another gives you lovely negative space for that thing you suddenly decide you need to promote on Thursday morning. 😂
Branding photography isn't about constantly replacing old photographs.
It's about making sure you've got images that are relevant to what your business needs to say now.
That's exactly why I love photographing businesses throughout the year.

One of the reasons we chat before your wedding is so I know what matters.
Who are your people?
Are there family relationships I should know about?
Something sentimental you're wearing?
Someone particularly important to you?
A family situation I need to handle sensitively?
Tell me those things.
What I don't need is a Pinterest-inspired list of 87 photographs you're terrified I'll forget.
Because while I'm absolutely making sure we get the important stuff, I'm also looking for the things neither of us could possibly have planned.
Like a son becoming overwhelmed as his mum and dad finally get married.
Or Mum and sister quietly watching a father-daughter dance from the edge of the floor.
You couldn't have asked me for those photographs beforehand.
You didn't know they were going to happen.
You tell me who matters. I'll watch for the moments.

This. This is why I photograph weddings the way I do.
Of course I'll photograph the kiss.
Of course I'll photograph the confetti, your family and the two of you looking bloody fabulous.
But while you're busy being the people at the centre of the wedding, there's an entire wedding happening around you.
People are laughing. Crying. Hugging. Nervously practising speeches. Entertaining small children. Pouring questionable quantities of fizz. 😂
And you're going to miss some of it.
I don't want your photographs to simply prove that your wedding happened.
I want them to let you discover bits of it afterwards.
That's the good stuff.

Consider this your little nudge to get the family photograph.
You know the one.
The one you keep meaning to organise when everyone's free. When the kids are a bit older. When life calms down. When somebody finally manages to find a weekend that works for three different households…
Basically, sometime around 2047. 😂
My Timeless Generations Mini Sessions are designed to make it much easier.
They're short, relaxed sessions where we can photograph grandparents with grandchildren, parents with their grown-up children, siblings and, most importantly, the generations together.
They don't need to be perfectly coordinated. Nobody needs to be brilliant in front of a camera. And your family certainly doesn't need to behave like the people in a picture frame advert.
They just need to turn up as themselves.
Because these aren't really photographs you're having taken just for now.
They're photographs you're going to be very glad you have later. 🥹
I still have some availability for my upcoming Timeless Generations Mini Sessions in my Auchterarder studio.

There are marriage proposals… and then there are marriage proposals involving a typhoon. 😂

When John decided he was going to propose to Crystal in the Philippines, he'd picked the ring and the date and was determined not to chicken out.

What he hadn't planned for was a gazebo being occupied, a restaurant closing, water coming into another restaurant, gale-force winds turning his umbrella inside out and an increasingly wet, cold and hungry Crystal who JUST WANTED TO GO HOME.
Reader, he persisted. And thank goodness she said yes. 😂

Fast forward to a considerably sunnier Saturday in Stirling and I got to photograph these two getting married at the absolutely stunning Church of the Holy Rude.

There was a surprise piper, guests travelling from near and far, tourists turning into unofficial paparazzi, beautiful light pouring through the stained-glass windows, confetti and a wedding cake that basically told their entire Scotland-meets-the-Philippines love story in fondant.

And all of this was captured on my shortest two-hour wedding package.

411 finished photographs, to be precise.
Because a shorter wedding doesn't mean a smaller story. ❤️
I've shared Crystal & John's brilliant story and their gorgeous Stirling wedding on the blog 👇

While you're getting married, I'm not only looking at you.
I'm looking behind you.
Beside you.
At your family.
At your friends.
At the person trying not to cry and the person doing something utterly ridiculous in the background. 😂
Because some of the photographs you'll love most won't be photographs you asked for.
They'll be moments you didn't even know happened.
You can't put those on a shot list.
You just need a photographer who's looking for them.
More about this on my latest blog. Link in bio.

Resistance is futile. 😂
I won't force you to spend half your dog's photoshoot posing for portraits.
But am I going to gently suggest you get into a handful?
Absolutely.
And you know what?
They're very often the photographs people are most grateful they have later.
No posing. No awkward smiling at me.
Just you and your furry little weirdo being exactly who you are together.
Sorry, not sorry.

Who makes up YOUR family?

Four generations of women made up the family in this portrait.
Yours doesn't have to.
It could be Mum, Dad and the kids. Three siblings. Grandparents and grandchildren. All the cousins. Or your family might have four paws and insist on sitting on the sofa. 🐾
My Timeless Generations sessions are back for just two days on 12th & 13th September.

And here's the clever bit...
I don't actually photograph everyone together.
Each person is photographed individually before I carefully combine the images to create one completely unique family portrait.
Which means I don't need three children, Granny and the Labrador to simultaneously look in the right direction. Frankly, that feels like witchcraft even without Photoshop. 😂
30-minute session | £49 | Auchterarder studio
Any combination of 3+ people
One individually created composite family portrait with print release
And while I absolutely refuse to start talking properly about Christmas in September...
this printed and framed would make a cracking Christmas present for Granny.
There. I said it. 🎄
Spaces are limited across the two days.
DM me TIMELESS and I'll send you the booking link.
