Had a chance last week to do some plane- and chopper spotting in The Netherlands and Germany. Saw a couple of Hercules (at Eindhoven Airport), an Apache doing low flying exercises, Typhoons and Tornados at Nörvenich AFB in Germany and an AWACS at Geilenkirchen AFB in Germany.

I love the smiley face on the Herc, isn't that just adorable? Apaches are awesome machines; and seeing Tornados (and hearing, feeling and tasting their afterburners) is quite something.

Bit of a countryfile shot, isn't it? I suspect it will be a long while, if ever, when I get this close to a bird of prey again. This kestrel was hovering just a few feet above my head. And it just hung there for quite a while, no doubt scanning the ground for food. All the while I got to admire its colours, its feathers, its head... such a beautiful bird.

This may be one of the coolest pictures I've ever taken. Not sure if it's a dogfight or a mating ritual (answers in the comments if you know), but there was a lot of flapping and bashing and crashing into each other going on. Fascinating to watch and I'm so please to get a few decent shot out of it too.

I'm not a bird-watcher, but I do enjoy watching the geese and other birds near our local reservoir on the edge of the Peak District. It appears to be mating season for the geese, so there was... let's say... lots of splashing going on. Flypasts from a pair of curlews and a 9-ship of geese was very nice. Here are a few pics from this afternoon; I hope you enjoy.

And here we have a rare sighting of a mama bird feeding one of her baby birds mid-air, whilst the other chicks patiently wait their turn. The Latin names for these birds are Boeing KC-135 "Stratotanker" and Lockheed Martin F35A "Lightning II".
