EOS Training Academy

EOS Training Academy Learn how to use your Canon EOS camera through our dedicated UK-based training programme. How well do you know your Canon EOS camera?

Our tutors know the EOS system inside out and a day spent with them will unlock your camera’s full potential and give you the skills to improve your photography. Getting to grips with the basics of photography is one thing, but actually understanding how your camera works and what it's capable of is another matter. That's where the EOS Training Academy comes in – our team of lecturers know the EOS

system inside out and guarantee that a day spent with them will unlock your camera's full potential. We offer a wide range of practical days out around the UK; classroom-based workshops in Oxfordshire, London and Canon HQ in Reigate plus online video-based tutorials from the comfort of your own home. Days out
Enjoy a practical day out with your camera, from only £89. We choose locations that lend themselves to a great day of photography so you can see the results of your tuition immediately. Group sizes are small to maximise the time spent with your tutor, so you can get to grips with your EOS camera. Locations include London, Somerset, Cheshire, Norfolk, Yorkshire and beyond. Workshops
Our classroom-style workshops are a fun, interactive way to learn more about EOS photography. Many of our workshops involve practical elements and the lecturer's informal approach means you can ask questions and tailor your learning experience. Have you ever followed a set-up guide video for your Canon EOS camera and ended up more confused than ever? 🤔🤯

Watch this Replay talk, The 'Ultimate' Camera Set-up? Originally given at Photography Show in 2022, tutor Nina Bailey explains why there is no one single way to set up your camera, only what works best for you and what you shoot.

Taken over 12 years ago, we still absolutely love this shot.

Cameras typically focus on what's closest to them, so taking control over your focusing is really important for scenarios such as this watchful leopard behind the grass. Spot AF is the smallest of the focusing areas and, whilst small doesn't equal better – as you need sufficient contrast for the camera to find and focus on your subject – for shots like this it's ideal.

So if you or your subject is in a tight spot, highly obscured and hiding like this leopard, then put your camera on One Shot and Spot AF. And be very, very quiet!

Shot on Canon EOS 5D Mark III, EF 300mm f2.8L IS USM, 1/500 second at f4, ISO 800.

Do you check your camera's dashboard before heading out to shoot?

Your EOS camera's black Q screen – shown by default on most DSLRs and accessible as one of the Display options for the rear screen via the INFO button on mirrorless models – is such a useful tool. You can use it to check your current settings at-a-glance. It's great for picking up on settings which might be in place from a previous session, and to check that how you're set up is right for what you're about to shoot.

Just like your car, your Canon camera has a useful dashboard providing you with an overview of your current settings. Learn how to use this to best effect and what all the symbols mean

Looking forward to heading back to Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens this week for our first visits of the year. Such a brilliant place to learn how to use your Canon EOS R-series camera and get super-close to the wonderful animals that call Oxfordshire their home. Here are a few of our faves from the Park: the otter, Mexican prairie dog and – of course – the Humboldt penguin, who resides with his feathery friends in the lovely Walled garden area.
