Plot twist - before photography, I was a secondary school teacher for 10 years, specialising in Geography 🌍
And it turns out, a decade of managing classrooms full of teenagers is surprisingly good training for being a photographer.
✨Teenagers who would rather be anywhere else than having their photo taken? I can chat to them without worrying about being too talkative, mildly embarrassing or completely uncool.
✨A large wedding group slowly wandering in twelve different directions? Teacher voice activated.
✨The awkward uncle who has absolutely no interest in joining the family photos? I have dealt with Year 10 on a Friday afternoon. He does not scare me.
✨Keeping a wedding day moving to a timeline while remaining calm when things inevitably run late? Basically a school timetable, but with champagne.
✨And obviously, the Geography teacher in me LOVES a good location. Give me dramatic cliffs, a sandy beach, beautiful gardens, wildflowers or an interesting landscape and I am very happy.
❤So there you go. 10 years in the classroom and it turns out I use far more of those teacher skills in photography than I ever expected.
Now I want to know yours - what is your random hidden talent or previous job that people would never guess?
