Couldn’t resist going back to see the female red-footed falcon today near to Dundalk. I was really pleased that the two tics around its eye have fallen off and the bird was flying around and feeding well today. It got irritated though after having a scratch and it got a feather stuck to its claw.

My mission this year was to try and take some better photos of birds. Half way through the year and I’m pretty pleased with the photos of 2026 so far. Names on photo.

I was out in the boat yesterday evening to cliffs just outside of Belfast Lough. We saw plenty of birds and puffins. Names of species on the photo. Puffins at this location nest in burrows on small grassy ledges.

My favourite type of bird to photo are raptors (birds of prey). Here are a selection of my photos taken in the UK and Ireland names on the photo. I’ve still a few species to get like goshawk, tawny owl, pallid harrier, northern harrier etc.

A bit of a video of the juvenile Red-footed falcon. Being a young raptor it is totally not worried about humans and the farmer herding his sheep in the background didn’t bother it.

Today I managed to get a Red-footed falcon for the first time, a bird I’ve wanted for years. This is a juvenile bird just across the border in Southern Ireland. It’s a juvenile and incredibly tame around humans. What a STUNNING bird!

A while ago deliberate fires were started in the mournes and the firefighters rescued the eggs in a nest of curlews. They have now hatched and getting ready for release.

The curlew chicks will eventually be released into the wild, and conservationists are delighted.🐦
