This Dipper will often feed or forage within a couple of metres of me. On this occasion it landed so close to me the lens could not focus and I had to wait until it moved away a bit. It is never bothered by me sitting there and will sometimes just sing. They have a beautiful song if you are lucky enough to hear it above the sound of the river. I think these early mornings by the river have been some of the best days I have spent filming for a long time. Click to see larger image.

There was a beautiful dawn chorus to listen to while out and about filming this morning. There was a hard frost too, but some warmth in the sun when it came up. Spotted this Dipper collecting nesting material as well.

I noticed back in early November that a chunk of High Force had fallen off (brown area in the middle of the cliff) and today I saw that it was reported in the local paper too. These are a couple of comparison shots. One from January 2025 and the other November 2025. Nature at work.

A very happy 100th birthday to Dr Margaret Bradshaw. I am currently editing the footage of Margaret who appears in my Teesdale documentary and it brings back some nice memories of filming both her and other members of the Upper Teesdale Botany Group, who are doing some amazing work to help preserve the rare flora in Teesdale.

Most days are spent in front of the PC office editing the Wild Teesdale documentary at the moment, but it was nice to look out of the window and see this Male Great Spotted Woodpecker in the garden this morning. No snow here, but it is certainly cold in the wind despite the sun.

Friends on my personal page will already be aware of this from my post a few weeks back. I entered an edit of my Teesdale Documentary trailer into the Wanderlust Travel Magazine photography/video awards recently. Out of over 4,000 entries across all the categories my video is one of the 5 shortlisted. It's the only UK entry to get through for video, so if nothing else the film when finished will at least have got some promotion outside of north east England. My entry will be shown at the Holiday & Travel Show 2026, Olympia London on Thursday 29th January 2026. You can watch the finalists here and then vote for your favourite video, or pics (scroll to bottom of page for the videos). You might even win a 3-night trip to Abu Dhabi. https://www.wanderlustmagazine.com/visions-2026/vote/
