Jonny Clyde - Photography

Jonny Clyde - Photography Landscape photography from Northern Ireland. While studying Interactive Multimedia Design I completed a module on photography which is where my passion began.

Since graduating I have been a graphic designer for some big companies, and photography has always went hand-in-hand with that. More recently however, I have began mixing my love for the outdoors and being active with my photography through landscape and street photography.

A Rueing Rath

It is rather typical of a sky to catch fire above Rathlin Island, and the cliffs of the eastern Rue Point to ignite when I have travelled without my gear. But as the saying goes, “the best camera is the one on you.” In this case, it’s the good old fashioned iPhone. Better to have something, than nothing.

All this adds fuel to my recent obsession to purchase a Fujifilm X100VI. If you support my decision, please feel free to donate to my cause in exchange for work, prints, buying my current gear or anything really 😬

As the night grew into the early hours of the morning, after several hours of watching epic storms track the west coast, I decided to call it a night. But as I turned, another storm passed over the east coast, likely as far as Stranraer.

I stood in the garden watching it in amazement, before suddenly remembering “photography”. As quick as lightning 👀 I ran upstairs and shot this botch job from my bedroom window.

My neighbours probably think I’m a weirdo now.

Ulster X Scots

Fair Head kissed by the golden light of the setting sun, but also by its distant neighbour in the shape of the Mull of Kintyre.

Fair fa ye!

…all good things must come to an end. Including our summer that lasts an average of around five days.

Water beneath the history above, old stone from a new perspective.

Built in the 1850s, this stunning 8-arch basalt bridge was originally built as a railway viaduct over the River Maine connecting Antrim and Cookstown.

Could you imagine seeing a steam train race across it?

X marks the spot

You can meticulously plan an evening out with your camera and gear, often debating if the gamble on conditions and light is going to pay out, procrastination urging you to sit back down on the sofa.

I’d like to say I beat those demons on this occasion but, as luck would have it, it was simply in the right place at the right time. Lucky? Perhaps, but luck doesn’t cart your camera bag about everywhere for you “just in case”.

Dún Briste

The etymology of the Irish name derives from the words “broken” and “fort” respectively, reflecting both the structure’s appearance and its legendary origins.

The legend goes that when a local druid, Crom Dubh, refused to convert to Christianity, an angry St. Patrick struck the ground with his staff and cut the stack from the mainland. Condemning the druid to die there in solitude.
