Here's some more photos I've taken for my project Infrared InMemoriam. I visited Belper Cemetery which didn't have any areas of overgrowth - that always helps make the picture - but I decided to walk around anyway (there's a lot of it, too!) and I'm glad I did because I eventually spotted a few graves that had been reclaimed by nature or on the way to being subsumed. I also found some graves that were backdropped by some mythical-looking, tentacular trees.
What I love about the infrared effect is that I felt I was walking through a typically sombre and silent cemetery but when I processed the photos at home, the final images looked like I'd been somewhere mysterious and rather chilling.

I am about to produce yet one more new jigsaw in my Derwent Valley series, looking this time at a Cromford Canal image, subject to the Friends of Cromford Canal's approval. I have come up with three images, two of them showing the days when the canal ran horse-drawn trips. I have to say I prefer the one of just the boat but I do wonder if the diffused background doesn't make for the best kind of jigsaw. You see, all of the jigsaws I've produced so far are pretty much sharp from front to back. Does the blurry background (colourful though it is) make the lone narrowboat an unsuitable jigsaw, or do you actually prefer one of the other two anyway? let me know, especially if you're a jigsaw lover.

After the sale of 15 jigsaws at last Sunday's Belper Food & Gift Fair, I have two new Belper jigsaws from the Derwent Valley series being made up. They will be available in about six weeks, in good time for the Love Belper Town Festival on July 26th!

Don't forget to visit my gazebo/stall at the Belper Food & Gift Fair tomorrow, Sunday 31st. As usual, I'll be in front of the Belper Ritz at the top of King Street. I will have numerous photo art prints (mainly of the Derwent Valley and Tuscany), my Derwent Valley jigsaws, and my new book Garden of Plenty.
The event is from 11am to 4pm. My card reader has been fully charged so I'm ready for your custom!

Here's a dozen more images from my recent trip to Tuscany. Four of these images will be on sale as prints at this Sunday's Belper Food & Gift Festival. My gazebo will be in front of the Belper Ritz as always.
All of these images are largely of places I've visited before but where I've captured an aspect of these places in a different way. A few images, though, are of places visited for the first time.
See you on Sunday between 11am and 4pm. Lots of prints available along with my latest book Garden of Plenty and, of course, my unique Derwent Valley jigsaws.

I timed my picture-taking perfectly this afternoon, visiting the churchyard at St Alkmund's, Duffield to kickstart my new project: Infrared InMemorium. You'll find few serious photographers taking photos under a summer sun but bright sunshine with lots of sky and greenery is ideal if you have an infrared camera.
Because infrared images often look eerie, atmospheric and otherworldly, I've decided to seek out churchyards, especially if they're bestrewn with foliage and/or contain interesting monuments. Here you can help me...
Where will I find - in Derbyshire - overgrown graveyards with monumental angels as I found at St Alkmunds? I'm looking to eventually write a feature about this project for Derbyshire Life. So bring on your recommendations!

I have just enjoyed a wonderful two weeks in Tuscany's Val d'Orcia, leading a workshop with my fellow tutor Ian Daisley. All 11 of our photographers were captivated by the landscape with its big skies, mist-strewn mornings, the dips and folds in the rolling fields, and the cypress trees, whether solitary or sweeping. We also explored historic hill-top towns such as Pienza and Montepulciano.
This was my 14th time in the D'Orcia Valley yet I still came to capture fresh and fascinating sights I hadn't photographed before. As the great photographer Tom Mackie said of Tuscany: 'It's the gift that keeps on giving'.
I'm doing it all over again next May but demand for places is already high!

Took some photos earlier today (Saturday) of Holmlea in Ambergate ahead of their opening on Sunday (26th) as part of the National Garden Scheme Derbyshire. I'm going back as there's so much to photograph - one and a half acres of garden full of surprises.

With National Garden Scheme Derbyshire – I just got recognized as one of their top fans! 🎉
