One the 11 August 1986 the Westland Lynx G-LYNX set the World Speed Record for helicopters, 40 years to the date The Centre of Aviation Photography arranged a flight with Project Lynx - XZ179 to celebrate the 40th anniversary.

As a photographer, you are always torn between the nirvana of the image and a safe shot. Air to Air photography isn't cheap and there would only every be one 40th anniversary flight so I should have played it safe and and shot at 1/80th to 1/125th to make sure I got the a sharp shot with a little motion in the rotor blades, especially over one of my favourite bridges, the Clifton suspension bridge. Playing safe went out of the window (or open door of the Cessna Grand Caravan) and I shot as low as 1/13th. Crazy considering it was a very bumpy long flight. This selection has my slowest shots, from 1/13th to 1/30th. Yes, not all of the Lynx is sharp, but you can't beat physics.
Did I go to slow?

A massive thanks to Andy Donovan UK for making it happen.

10 months in the planning between Andy Donovan UK and the RAF Typhoon Display Team to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Supermarine Spitfire resulted in an amazing air to air photoshoot over the Dorset coast.

Two MK IX Spitfires, the "Normandy Spitfire” & the “Pride of Kent" flown by George Haye and Ben Murphy along with The Centre of Aviation Photography photo ship, the Cessna Grand Caravan G-EELS left Bournemouth Airport on Friday 14th August to form over Lulworth Cove & Durdle Door. Two display Typhoons flown by Dave Leighton (RIOT01) and Tom Nation (RIOT02) left Royal Air Force Coningsby to join the flight. This image is one of many on what was a first for photographers and pilots alike.
