Nice morning for a quick shuffle around Staffordshire's incredible countryside, nice to see the stonechats and meadow pipits about, few young red deer stags around too, and the trees are turning a fantastic tan to orange colour, covering the ground in some great coloured leaves, should be getting cold soon, frost won't be far behind......

The day started as a lovely autumnal morning before the clouds and light rain arrived, I decided to go for a nice little walk in Staffordshire, not long after arriving at my chosen location I met some nice gents from Rugeley, also hoping to see some of the wild red deer in the area, on route we managed to observe some kestrels out hunting which was an added bonus, just before the main event, and there they were, large wild red deer, I managed to see 4 stags this morning, a few spikers and in a small woodland area were a lot of very pretty hinds, but please, if you know, don't repost the location on social media, these deer have enough problems as it is with photographers getting far to close, getting in their space, for your own safety and others, please respect the deer, antagonise the stags and they will be in your space quicker than you can think what to do, they can outrun you every time, plan your visit, know your escape route, and use trees for protection if you end up in a situation and feel unsafe, be safe and enjoy observing them from afar 👍

These were shot using the Om1 II + 300mm f4 pro lens (equivalent to 600mm on 35mm kit) from a safe distance.

Another great morning to be out around Staffordshire, I was lucky to have some great company on my walk, we were lucky and privileged to have spent some time with one of the top boys, this stag is a force to be reckoned with during the rut, he should still be the king once this years rut is over, he was in fine voice bolving and chasing the hinds around the wooded copse...... Hope I get to see him again in the coming weeks .......

As always, be careful around these wild deer, they can run faster than we can, know your escape route and use long lenses if possible, stay safe.

The start of another great day out in Staffordshire.......

I haven't done a lot of photography this year, not since the Adders back in March/April time, but it was great walking weather this morning, so I decided to pop over to deepest darkest Staffordshire where I knew there are normally some nice red stags, and it didn't take long to find some of the regulars and a few new faces too, it was great to spend some time watching a pair of prickets practice rutting, but the icing on the cake, was when one of the big local boys appeared, following some hinds, so I tagged along, and then to my joy, he decided to wallow in a mud hole, they normally do this to cool off and mark their territory especially during the rutting season and help attract females, Great to watch this activity....... I felt privileged just to get this chance......

Please be aware, these are wild red deer, it is rutting season so they can be unpredictable, be sensible and stay safe, these were shot at 600mm from a safe distance
