Bathed in golden sunshine, the iconic Sugar Loaf mountain rises proudly above Abergavenny and the surrounding Monmouthshire countryside. Standing at 596 metres in the heart of the Black Mountains, its distinctive conical shape and sweeping panoramic views make it one of South Wales’ most loved peaks. On a clear day, you can see across the Brecon Beacons, the Usk Valley and even towards the Bristol Channel.

From the rocky shoreline of Elgol, the view stretches out across restless, wind-whipped water toward the dark, jagged silhouettes of the Black Cuillins. Waves roll in with a steady rhythm, breaking into white foam as they collide with the scattered, lichen-speckled boulders in the foreground. The sea feels alive—textured, shifting, and cold—contrasting with the solid permanence of the rocks beneath your feet.

Beyond the water, the mountains rise dramatically, their rugged peaks partially veiled by heavy, brooding clouds. Patches of light break through just enough to graze the slopes, revealing earthy tones of brown and gold against the otherwise dark, imposing ridgeline. The atmosphere is raw and untamed, a perfect balance of movement and stillness—where the ever-changing sea meets the ancient, unyielding presence of the Cuillins.

Standing high above the dramatic landscape of the Old Man of Storr, this image captures a breathtaking sunrise as golden light spills across the rugged terrain and distant sea lochs. The sky is painted with soft streaks of cloud, glowing warm against the cool blues of the early morning, while the iconic rock pinnacles rise sharply from the hillside, adding depth and scale to the scene. The rolling foreground leads the eye naturally toward the horizon, where layers of mountains fade into the distance, creating a sense of vastness and calm.

Taken a few weeks ago during my trip to Skye, this moment perfectly sums up the raw beauty of the Highlands at first light. Shot on the Canon R6 Mark II paired with a 17–40mm f/4 lens, the wide-angle perspective helps capture both the sweeping landscape and the striking detail of the Storr itself.

This place is magical, even when the Cullen mountain range is partially covered in cloud.

Rugged beauty at its finest on the Isle of Skye, again this is the village of Elgol.

Waves swirl and crash over ancient rock formations, carving movement into the foreground while the dramatic peaks rise proudly in the distance. The contrast between the restless sea and the still, towering mountains captures that raw, untamed feeling you only get in the wild.
A moment where power and calm exist side by side—nature doing what it does best.

Buachaille Etive Mòr at the entrance to Glencoe, its steep, pyramid face carved by ancient glaciers and often shrouded in fast-moving Highland weather. In this image, the mountain feels both imposing and alive, with fresh snow clinging to its upper ridges while a soft burst of sunlight breaks through the heavy clouds, warming the moorland below. The cascading water in the foreground adds motion and contrast, guiding the eye toward the peak and capturing the raw, dramatic beauty that makes this landscape so iconic. This image is so iconic you can place the tripod down in every other landscape photographers holes :)
