Pictured at Rushcliffe Halt in Nottinghamshire on the Great Central Railway in 1923 the ‘Flying Scotsman’ is one of the most famous locomotives in the world.

Built in 1923 by LNER (Doncaster) the Flying Scotsman was the first engine to reach 100mph in 1934 and has toured extensively in the USA and Australia, where she broke the record for the longest non-stop run of 422 miles.

Weighing 97 tonnes and measuring 70 feet (21m), she was restored to her former glory in 2016. The Flying Scotsman appears at events up and down the country where you can travel on board.

Nipped out at the weekend to grab a shot of this monster as it made it’s way sedately up the A42.

At 81m long x 6.5m wide and weighing a whopping 514 tonnes, it proceeded at 8mph blocking all northbound lanes on its way to Goole in Yorkshire.

I’m just glad I wasn’t stuck in the huge queue behind it! 😂

The third and last in my recent trilogy of Castles of North Wales, Conwy stands overlooking the River of the same name offering protection to the town which is encircled by an unbroken wall.

This World Heritage site was built by Edward I in only 4 years between 1283 and 1287. It is an incredibly well-preserved medieval fortress, with beautiful royal apartments.

Be aware that military aircraft often fly down the river valley, so check for any restrictions before launching.
