Point and Shoot Photos

Point and Shoot Photos Railway photographer, landscape photographer - anything photographer - where I go, the camera follows To be honest, I’m having a great deal of fun doing it.

I first picked up a Camera when I was about 12, back when you had to put roll in them and send them off at the Chemist! After a gap in taking pictures, I got back into the game a few years ago, shooting with my 'pocket rocket', the Panasonic Lumix TZ40. Since buying that I believe that I have grown my skills, and developed as a photographer. A kind friend loaned me his Canon 450D for a few years w

hich eventually gave me the bug to go out and buy my very own DSLR. I've currently got the set up of a Canon 70D along with an 18 to 200mm lens, which suits my style of photography very much. Over the last 5 years I've travelled to the West Highlands of Scotland, to the Mountain ranges of Snowdonia, had City breaks in Edinburgh, travelled along some of the most scenic train rides in the UK, and gone on many adventures. I hope that you like some of the things I take, and who knows, perhaps you’d like one of my pictures on your wall.

I remember the feeling of anticipation before this turned up, matched with the appropriate coaching livery the High Speed Train Prototype came over the bridge and towards Mytholmes Tunnel amongst the beautiful West Yorkshire countryside.

A real sight to behold!

Prototype Class 41 number 41001 is seen working along the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway between Oakworth and Haworth.

One of those fluky moments back when I didn't have a care in the world for weather forecasts, and planning for the light.

Back when I took this I just turned up and took the photo. I didn't even 'hope for the best' I just turned up, pointed the camera, and took the shot.

How I would kill for conditions like this again so I could go back and really give this my all! How lucky I was to have glorious warming light dusting the landscape of the Yorkshire Dales while the legs of the viaduct were left in dark shadows.

The engine doing the honours was LMS Jubilee Galatea, at this point still wearing it's fictional red British Railways livery - but that didn't matter here. Not even the purists could faulter this effort with the flat topped Ingleborough Mountain sitting off in the distance, keeping watch as the train steamed over the Ribblehead Viaduct.
