Welcome to the new edition out today with an extended 40-page effort which I hope you find full of varied and interesting content as ever.
The main thrust, of course, is to acknowledge the VE Day commemorations in May and reflect upon times we hope never return, albeit conflict remains all around the globe. Our young writer - The Lee Report - has provided a valuable insight from the perspective of the younger generation. I have also re-published a brilliant piece by Norman Alvin when the reality of war hit Idle directly. Elsewhere the issue is full of all your regular contributors.
Finally, as the new cricket season begins, a very personal piece in tribute to an excellent local club that folded last year. Having spent my life as a single-club man and, sadly post having left a few years ago, witnessed the erosion of so much that many good people struggled to build over decades, I see a slice of life that is vanishing for good.
Community spirit is much misunderstood but it is, without doubt, vanishing quickly. Without it, our predecessors would not have prevailed in 1945.
A sobering thought perhaps.
