BAMFORD September 2026

With having not paid the Peak a visit with the old snapper for a while and the sun still looking pretty friendly into September, I paid a visit to another of her little villages that I still too frequently pass without stopping.
Bamford sits on the side of a hill heading up away towards Ladybower, with it it's main street winding steeply upwards amid cottages pubs and churches. So I in turn followed, starting with St John's sharp but unmissable steeple, and ending by the flowery frontage of the Anglers Rest, doubling both as the central pub and also post office to the village.
Delectable stone frontages and gateways, even including a closed grocers store caught the attention of my lens as I climbed the continually snaking road, never sure which side to swing to next.

Being a bit short on the old battery juice meant I couldn't get exactly everything captured but look at these images I think you have the perfect time time capsule in front - a typical English village that rightfully desires to stay old.

DUSK FALLS ON FLAMBOROUGH
After a sizeable supper on the first night of my summer East Yorkshire getaway, I got away with seizing up the camera for an hour or so's stroll around the iconic Flamborough headlands. As I set along the narrow clifftop pathway from North landing and around to the lighthouses, night soon started slowly to lower in sync and so this was the result.

BITS N BOBS ROUND BRID June 2026

With another of my tri-yearly escapes to the East Riding having recently taken place, my revived Panasonic got restless while in Bridlington on the first day. Quite amazing what you can still find to take on a quiet Monday morning with just a wonder. Ironwork and idling land trains being just a couple to capture as I crawled down to the south promenade before sneaking into the harbourside and an unsuspecting seagull.

MYTHOLMROYD June 2026

Hope I don't bore you if I say we're back to the Calder Valley once again but for all my last few years, either snap or just savour the idyllic settings, I seem to have kept missing one item off the collection.
Nestling modestly alongside the Rochdale Canal and a mile and a half down the road from Hebden bridge we have the attractive village of . Taking it's claim to fame from being the birth location of the legendary poet Ted Hughes, this plush location with its four thousand population may not be packed the same number of streets as its neighbours including Todmorden and Sowerby Bridge but makes up in the charm of its gardens and location not to omit the attractive St Michael's Church, sitting by the edge of the Calder.

SHEFFIELD CATHEDRAL - May 2026

Another bucket lister on my bumping photographic agenda is 's unmistakable 13th Century .
This colossus of historical gandeur, sitting behind the top of High St dates back to a parish church originally occupying the location from 1200 ( the reign of King John ) with later chapels and sections added across the ensuing centuries. Having only become a Cathedral in 1914 it has gone on to see further extensions and survived two significant fires (1979 and 2020). While many come to worship within, others worship what lies around the astounding exterior that either of those fires failed to take away. With sunlight getting in the way in some cases, beyond which my trusty Canon could help - as well as some unwelcoming looking squatters in spaces close by - I had to adapt my angles and position somewhat, opting in the cases of several for monochrome as opposed to colour for substantial effect.

MEERSBROOK IN BLOOM. April 2026

It might be a few weeks too late for Mother's Day but while the daffs were still about and the bluebells moving in at the same time, I decided to make the most of the April brightness with a bumble around one of Sheffield's favourite open spots. Both floors in both types of colour were covered at a multitude of angles, some relatively unorthodox as always.

SALT END WORKS BY NIGHT ( ) March 2026

Forgive me if this place looks a little bit familiar to some of you as I did of course visit it only mere months beforehand.
Id originally mistaken the immense chemical works plant for a cluster of recently-built luxury flats when I first passed it at night in late 2024.
I felt however the daytime shots I captured in July didn't do it enough justice, with having seen the visual spectacle that the site created at night when seen from the roadside. Therefore there was only one thing for it... and without any Yorkshire evening rain being in the way for once .... no excuses.

TODMORDEN February 2026

Back to West Yorkshire And to one of those other wonderful little towns decorating the Scenic Calder Valley.

This attractive little spot Just miles short of the board between Yorkshire and Greater Manchester was a largely significant hub in the local cotton industry, with almost 20 mills to select from, and were naturally dependent on the canals and railways running through the valley to aid transportation.

A four-year cotton famine affecting parts of the northwest of England jeopardized the industry severely in the 1860s due to a blockade in the USA which prevented the import of raw cotton supply
This resulted in mass joblessness and poverty for workers within the industry in the Uk. A local consequence saw a planned town hall in Todmorden itself also facing jeopardy until local stepped into help finance it.

Despite recovery across the decades to follow the industry would ultimately begin decline by WW2 with most mills being either closed or converted into other businesses or usage.

The town today remains attractively stalled in time in many spots with cobbled side streets small shops including its attractive little apothecary, indoor market and the adnirable railway viaduct crossing above, plus the town hall which still stands as used and is deservedly grade 1 listed.

Due to my Panasonic being practical and it's last legs I was limited to what I could produce photo size wise it is quite visible that you see these pictures at the smaller default size if possible to avoid them being ruined by blur.

THE WAIT IS OVER ....ALMOST.

Apologies, if you notice there's been no more photos from me for some considerable weeks - even months - now. Other activities heavily hijacked my time, but a window in my schedules has once more at last allowed me to break loose with the ol lens shutter... and find out that my 8-year old Panasonic's itself still has some mechanical capability remaining. Coming up this friday will be captures from another attractive small Yorkshire town, captured itself in time.

See you in a few days.
