Soft pink hues spread across the evening sky, while the fading sunlight creates beautiful reflections across the wet sands and surrounding landscape.

A lovely walk to day High on the cliffs of Cornwall’s wild Tin Coast were lies Botallack, a landscape shaped by both nature and the determination of generations of miners.
Here, the story of mining stretches hundreds of metres beneath the seabed and reaches back thousands of years. Today, nature has reclaimed much of the old industrial landscape, leaving behind the dramatic engine houses, mine workings and rugged cliffs that make Botallack such an iconic part of Cornwall.
The mineral wealth beneath these cliffs was plentiful — copper, tin and arsenic, along with cobalt, lead, iron, silver and even botallackite, a mineral named after Botallack following its discovery here in the 19th century.
Archaeological evidence suggests that minerals were being worked here as far back as the mid-Roman period, around AD 200, with possible evidence of even earlier Bronze Age workings.
By the 16th century, Botallack was being mined with simple, shallow shafts, carefully kept above the seawater. But as technology advanced, so did the miners’ ambitions. By 1774, improved pumping technology allowed men to venture beneath the seabed itself, working deep below the waves from Tolvan Shaft.
Standing here today, looking out across the wild Atlantic, it’s hard not to imagine the courage, hardship and determination of those who once worked beneath these cliffs.
A truly remarkable landscape where Cornwall’s industrial past meets the raw beauty of nature. 🌊⛏️🌿

Whilst out walking along the beach , I came across this poor soul washed up on the shore. 😔
Always sad to see something like this. I’m not sure whether it was a porpoise or a dolphin, but either way, it’s a reminder of the wildlife that shares our coastline.
Such a sad sight to come across while out enjoying a walk. 🌊💙

Nothing quite like a glorious sunset at Porth Beach in Cornwall, stretching across the wide-open sands as the sun slowly fades away for another day. 🌅
The sky comes alive with a beautiful cloudscape, while the wet sand catches the last of the evening light, creating superb reflections as the gentle sea rolls in. 🌊✨
Nature at its very best and a wonderful way to end the day.
Have a great day tomorrow, everyone, and enjoy whatever you’re doing. 😊

Watching the historic smack MARIA being moved over to the scrubbing posts in Brightlingsea as the sun began to rise, bathing the sky in some beautiful early-morning colours. 🌅⛵
Built in 1866 by Harris Brothers at Donyland, Essex, MARIA—pronounced Mariah—is one of the oldest smacks still afloat. Originally built for oyster dredging and fishing along the East Coast, she was also regularly raced during the winter months and was reputed to be a very fast boat.
Narrower than the later, more beamy smacks, MARIA is a wonderful reminder of Brightlingsea’s proud fishing and sailing heritage.
A beautiful old boat, a peaceful harbour and another glorious sunrise — what more could you ask for? ❤️
Enjoy your day all 😊
