One final set of images from on Saturday. I am absolutely living for the crocheted sign in the first photo! 🩵🩷🤍

I'll be back to posting more in the next week, including information about the extended deadline for our trans portraits community project. Haven't quite had the energy for social media over the past month, but trans pride restored me a fair bit!

As ever, if you/your sign is in one of these and you would like me to tag you, send you a copy of the photo or take it down, please just DM the account!

Just over a week left to submit your story to our Trans Portraits community photo project! I've received some fantastic submissions so far but I'd still love more! In particular I'd like to extend an invitation to Trans People of Colour who would like to take part, as I'd love to platform your experiences.

🏳️‍⚧️📸

What is this project?

Throughout 2025 TPC is collecting stories about trans joy. Getting involved means telling us about your experiences by filling in our participation form (link in bio!). This includes a basic about you section, plus a broader section where you can write whatever you like about trans joy.

Participation is open to anyone in the UK who is trans or non-binary. Priority is given to those from marginalised or underrepresented backgrounds; 50% of spaces are reserved for Trans People of Colour, and we also prioritise disabled folks and those over the age of 40.

Unfortunately there are currently a few parts of the UK that I can’t physically get to for financial reasons, including Scotland, Northern Ireland, Cumbria, Northumbria, Durham or neighbouring counties. People from those areas are still welcome to submit a story - I’ll aim to feature what you write, we just might not be able to offer you a photoshoot!

Our four favourite responses will be invited to a free photoshoot during August/September 2025. You will then be featured in our annual magazine (to be released in November) and online. We'll send you a set of the photos to use however you like, plus a digital copy of the magazine when it’s finished!

We'll also be featuring as many of the other submissions as we can on our website, social media and Patreon feeds.

The deadline for submissions is Monday 28th July. Check out the FAQs on our website for more information or pop us a comment below if you have any questions!

Follow the link in our bio to get involved. I can’t wait to see what you write! 😊🏳️‍⚧️

A few quick faves from Sheffield Radical Pride earlier. Genuinely such a great feeling to photograph a pride march (esp a grassroots, anti-capitalist one!) in the area that I grew up! 💜

Huge thanks to for organising.

"Especially being a black trans person, I used to struggle finding space in q***r communities or black/POC communities. I've often felt like I wasn't q***r enough or wasn't Black enough. However, Bristol has been really welcoming and has given me the chance to meet so many lovely people with so many experiences of gender and sexuality.

Moving to Bristol has given me the chance to live freely, to dress how I want and to embrace who I am much more than I could when I lived with family back in London."

"Trans joy is about not being trapped by the dogma of others expectations. It's about understanding that you are not supposed to be perfect, you're on a journey of self discovery and it's the most wonderful gift you can give yourself. When you life is joy it shines out of you like rainbows and others can only be influenced positively by your light. I know this is cheesy, but this is my experience."

Call for participants! What does trans joy mean to you? 🏳️‍⚧️

Our Trans Portraits project is a community arts project which aims to promote visibility and empowerment for the trans community in the UK, and throughout 2025 we're collecting stories about trans joy! We’ve just opened our second round of submissions for the year, and we’d love for as many of you as possible to get involved!

Getting involved means telling us about your experiences by filling in our participation form (link in bio!). This includes a basic about you section, plus a broader section where you can write whatever you like about trans joy.

Participation is open to anyone in the UK who is trans or non-binary. Priority is given to those from marginalised or underrepresented backgrounds; 50% of spaces are reserved for Black folks, Asian folks and any People of Colour, and I also prioritise disabled folks and those over the age of 40.

Unfortunately there are currently a few parts of the UK that we can’t physically get to for financial reasons, including Scotland, Northern Ireland, Cumbria, Northumbria, Durham or neighbouring counties. People from those areas are still welcome to submit a story - we’ll aim to feature what you write, we just might not be able to offer you a photoshoot!

“I'm 34, and I grew up in a conservative home town and being a reprobate I was groomed into joining the Army. I was sent to Afghanistan and suffered some severe PTSD as a result. Coming out was a long process for me, it involved shedding an old skin and growing into who I am today, unlearning my upbringing and discovering that being happy is better than fitting in."

We've changed our name! We're now Trans Portraits Collective, instead of Trans Portraits UK!

What I want to do with the project has evolved a lot over the past year. I find myself more and more interested in building opportunities for trans photographers, creating ways for us to connect, and fostering a sense of community amongst us all - even when we’re physically spread across the country. Trans Photography Collective reflects those objectives more accurately.

Our current name - Trans Portraits UK - honestly always felt a bit like a placeholder. I chose it when I decided to expand Bristol Trans Portraits beyond Bristol, and at the time essentially couldn’t think of anything better!

The trans portraits project and magazine will still be up and running, and will be a big part of the collective’s work; I’m hugely proud of it, and would really like to get more trans photographers involved with it if I can.

I envisage that, over time, trans portraits will become one of a few different projects that the collective works on. For example, in the immediate future I’ll also continue to maintain the new trans photographers directory, and seek to make as many organisers, LGBTQ groups and arts organisations as possible aware of us.

Here are a few other things I’d like to do with the collective:

Photowalks & other social events for trans photographers (both professional & hobbyist)
Workshops and mentorship schemes
Create opportunities for early-career trans photographers to gain experience
Exhibitions

If you have any suggestions for anything else you’d like to see, drop me a DM or leave me a comment!

As with anything, a lot of this kind of stuff will be funding dependent, so if you’re interested in what the collective is doing, please consider supporting us on Patreon - link is in the bio!

I’ll be properly changing our website and Patreon over the next few weeks to reflect the new name and new aims. Looking forward to building something new! 😊

"Trans joy for me is a celebration of who you are without apology. Transgender and non-binary people go through so much soul-searching to reflect on who they are and what they want to be, even before we transition. Trans joy is eschewing of others expectations and living authentically without apology."

"I think a lot of people think it will be offensive to ask trans people questions as they’ll be seen as ignorant for not knowing. But that’s not true! I’d rather answer a question than confuse people."
