I’m loving getting creative with a new Canon RF 45mm F1.2 STM lens! It’s fun to shoot with wide apertures for everything from creatively blurred landscapes of flowery fields, and then sharp close-ups of dandelion heads! Looking forward to to teaching new shallow DoF effects to my clients on the next workshops. Shot with a Canon UK EOS R6 Mark III.

Head In The Clouds. For years I’ve wanted to get a landscape shot of our local Kelston Roundhill like it’s sat above the clouds. I’d visualised the shot, but never had the right conditions, luck or timing. Until earlier this week, when the conditions were perfect for a low-lying mist first thing in the morning. A cool, clear night followed by morning frost then warm sunshine. I raced to get into my pre-planned position across the valley in our village, then had to patiently stand with my Canon kit on the tripod, and wait for the thick blanket of mist to clear. I couldn’t see a thing for ages, and it was cold so I paced back and forth on the path to keep warm. After more than half an hour, I was rewarded with just enough of Kelston Roundhill appearing through the mist to be highlighted by the sun. I love the soft side-light from the early morning sunshine.

I took loads of shots, trying to time them between mist rising and passing, but these compositions are my favourites. Canon UK shot with a Canon EOS R5 Mark II, and Canon RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1L IS USM between 125mm and 230mm, at f/8, 1/25 sec, ISO200.

Morning has broken 🎶🎵 Another great sunrise recently for a different shot of my new favourite tree. It was freezing until the sun rose above the horizon, almost instantly warming me and my toes up. Canon UK shot with a Canon EOS R5 Mark II and RF 24-105mm F4L IS USM, 1/30 sec, f/16, ISO100.

Glad I managed to get out yesterday morning for a great sunrise (after failed attempt the day before) to photograph this brilliant tree in a local field. Perfectly poised with a crook in the trunk to fit the sunburst appearing over the horizon.

It was worth nearly slipping over on my arse about 7 times on the black ice on the road down to the footpath, and the frozen hands and cold tea, but warm heart.

Big thanks to Fi Smith Art for the inspiration from her photo arty walks – I think we now love the same tree, Fi! ♥
