Greg Shaw Photography Bristol-based photographer exploring the magic of the lens—from the stars to cityscapes. Hello and welcome!

I'm Greg Shaw, a Bristol-based photographer with a passion for capturing the world through my lens. My journey in photography began under the night sky, as an avid astrophotographer. However, the often-cloudy UK skies led me to explore other captivating genres of photography. With a background in compliance consulting specialising in computer system validation, I bring a meticulous eye for detail

to each frame. I love the technical aspects just as much as the creative ones, striving to capture not just moments, but emotions and stories. While I haven't settled into a specific niche yet, my work ranges from landscape to portrait photography, and everything in-between. Excitingly, a selection of my work is available as high-quality prints, perfect for bringing a touch of visual elegance to any space. Feel free to browse the portfolio to find a piece that speaks to you. I'm excited to share my visual journey with you, and possibly even collaborate to capture yours. Feel free to explore my portfolio and don't hesitate to reach out with any inquiries.

Misty Horizons Reimagined: Clifton in Softer Light

This rendition, free from the polarizer’s influence and captured mere moments before the original, revels in the nuances of a softer glow and the richness of unfiltered colors. Through careful reprocessing and an alternative stitching technique, this panorama emerges with a renewed depth.

I’ve also recreated the four-piece carousel and decided to do it manually in photoshop rather than a panorama app as I wasn’t happy with the result last time. This new carousel extends an invitation to delve into the bridge’s grandeur and the delicate dance of light and mist with renewed clarity.

This journey of revisiting and refining celebrates the perpetual transformation and nuanced beauty inherent in photography.

Shout out to .one for his carousel template!!

Castle in the Lights…

This was the best image from Sunday nights attempt to capture the Northern lights over Blaise Castle. Despite light pollution, the image captures a slight purple tint, showcasing the Aurora’s brief dance above the horizon.

Hues of Dawn and Devotion…

Fridays dawn brought with it not just a breathtaking palette of colors, but also a poignant reminder of human connections. Two of images in this trio capture the serene beauty of the morning sky, a canvas painted with vibrant yellows, peaches, and purples, as seen through my iPhone 15 Pro Max. The third image, however, holds a different kind of beauty – love locks, each with a unique story, aligned against the backdrop of the iconic suspension bridge, softly blurred in the distance. While the locks remain in sharp focus, they echo the enduring nature of love against the transient beauty of the sunrise.

This collection, was captured with my phone and processed on my phone with Lightroom Mobile, is a tribute to the varied yet equally captivating facets of our world – the natural splendor of a new day and the intimate tokens of human affection.

Lone Connection…

‘Lone Connection’ dives into the complexities of urban solitude, a theme captured on a serene, rain-soaked Sunday evening.

This piece, taking inspiration from the stark, poignant style of Alan Schaller, represents my journey into street photography. It features a lone figure, engrossed in their phone, stepping into a narrow yet intense beam of light. The light sculpts a sharp silhouette, embodying the modern paradox: physically alone in the vast cityscape, yet connected through the invisible threads of digital communication. Shot with a 85mm F1.2L lens, this image balances light and shadow, crafting a narrative that speaks of both isolation and connectivity. With ‘Lone Connection’, the focus isn’t on the screen but on the person in the urban labyrinth, highlighting the silent stories that unfold every night in our cities.

An Old Friend…

Met this charming little robin yesterday who is a regular in the area and who has posed for me before. He/she (can never tell) is always ready to greet with curious eyes and a tilt of the head.

There’s a certain magic in these small encounters, a reminder of the connection we share with nature. This little bird, with its vibrant red breast and gentle demeanor, brought a smile and a moment of wonder to my day. 🐦🍃

Due to having my main camera set up for something else, I resorted to using the camera on my iPhone 15 Pro Max with it set to RAW so that I could properly process the image in Lightroom.

This clip from yesterday’s photo walk captures the first journey of my drone outside the confines of my garden.

It’s a whole new perspective, opening up a world of possibilities. Join me in experiencing these fresh views from above!

Celestial Serenity…

Captured one serene December evening, this celestial marvel reminds us of the quiet beauty that exists above us. The crescent moon, a slender arc in the vast canvas of the sky, is set against a ballet of peach and pastel hues as the sun bids its farewell. It’s moments like these that remind me of the endless wonders of our universe. 🌙✨

The Clifton Solstice - 2023☀️

Still one of my favourite shots taken this year. The additional planning, scouting runs and the weather all went in my favour as this shot only happens once a year during the morning of the Summer Solstice.

Was up super early at 4:00am so that I could get to the spot in time at 5:30am to catch the morning solstice which lines up perfectly with the suspension bridge arches.

Another image ticked off the bucket list and again another nod to for the idea.
