After 3 days in the chaos of Marrakech and I was happy to leave it behind. An early morning bus and I was off to the trails of the Atlas Mountains…. 🏔️

After arriving in Imlil and meeting with our guide. A final gear check was done. We set off into the hills aimed at the Refuge Du Toubkal where we would rest for the night.

Life in the Medina…. 🇲🇦

Back in the UK and getting through some of the photos from Morocco, I’m pretty stoked with the majority of the photos but as always I wish I had taken more.

Marrakech is a super busy city, which keeps you on your toes at every corner. At the centre of the city sits the historic walled Medina, where orderly chaos reigns supreme!

The plan for the perfect summer…. ☀️

Step 1. Start a new hobby, with the intent to quit by winter. Soley because it’ll take the pressure off feeling like you need to commit too it, revisit it when the time comes. Maybe even one that’ll get you outside more?

Step 2. Eat and cook outside as much as possible. Summer basically revolves around bbqs and soaking in the glorious sunshine.

Step 3. Choose human powered transport!
Why? Because you can! Slow down, the summer won’t last forever so why be stuck in your car when you can get somewhere under your own steam?

Step 4. Make plans! Going by the average life span, I’ve only got around 40 summers left. And when I factor in old age, I’ll be too fragile to do anything fun so that takes it down to say 30? That’s not many at all!

At the end of the day, the perfect summer is mostly a mentality. 👊☀️

If the world gets too loud, I recommend going outside. 🏔️

Hope everyone had a chance to get outside over the Easter break, I managed to squeeze a little outing in to snag a cracking view of the Cuillin ridge.

I’m getting pretty well acquainted with these local water weasels. 🦦

Not a whole heap of adventuring lately but when I can see wildlife like this within a stones throw from my front door it would be rude not to make the most of it.

Spotted 👀

The Eurasian otter or Lutra Lutra is 1 of 14 species that can be found across the world and this one is the only one found in Scotland and Europe for that matter.

There is no particular breeding season and mothers will generally have 2-3 cubs. These cubs can stay for around 12-15 months after birth, which contributes to slow population recovery and growth.

These guys have a 2 layered fur coat with up to 50,000 hairs per square centimetre of fur which provides these guys with the perfect layers to keep them warm as they move between both land and sea. Keeping this fur coat clean and functional is super important, so habitat with fresh water is vital to their survival. And on Skye the geology plays a big part in this with less permeable rocks creating pools of fresh water they can use.

I’d seen otters before but never able to snag a decent photo of one, so this was a pretty special afternoon. 🦦

If you’re in the Skye region and happen to come across one, feel free to reach out to and tell them about your encounter. They are pretty elusive at the best of times so any sightings can go a long way in conservation of the species.

Currently worldwide they are listed as threatened with a declining population.
