Although it is mid-spring, days are getting longer and with a warm spell around the corner, it’s hard not to think of the upcoming summer and what’s ahead for us. The last one had a few hikes that were particularly good and this year I want to top that.

There's something captivating about a river running through a meadow on an early summer morning. This makes me feel glad I didn't hit snooze on the alarm clock.

It's been two years since I last saw my parents and to make the most out of my visit, we spent most evenings doing something. One of those evenings, we went for a stroll on a beach known as Olando Kepurė (The Dutchman's Cap, popular for its hill with a 24m high bluff on the Baltic Sea coast). While there, we looked for amber stones, which can be frequently found on beaches by the Baltic Sea, but to no success. So we ended up just basking in the sun until it got below the horizon.

Malvern Hills at dawn

Usually, when I think of exploring peaks in the UK, I immediately think of going to Snowdonia or Lake District, or even the Scottish Highlands, which are at least a 4-hour drive away from Oxford. After spending an evening analysing surrounding areas close to me, I came across Malvern Hills. As the name suggests, it is a range of hills that does not sound particularly impressive. Little did I know how wrong I was. Hiking across these hills through dissipating clouds at sunrise was pure joy, and I will definitely return there sooner or later!

So I decided to go for a spontaneous 20+ miles ride around Oxfordshire. While the ride was steep in some places, it sure as hell was picturesque! I Definitely, doing it again soon.

Although a good portion of the weekend felt like being stuck in traffic, it turned out perfectly. The most significant highlights were skinny dipping in a cold River Alre, which felt refreshing on a scorching hot day and grilled campsite food. Grilled food is something worth sleeping on the ground without a pillow.
