Challenge 3 - Live a more sustainable life
Growing up with the Swiss alps close by, I learned from a young age to take care of my surroundings. To not leave paths unless I had a good reason and to respect the plants and animals around me. But leading a sustainable life doesn’t only mean taking care of the world around you. It also means taking care of yourself and taking a break when you need it.
Could I encourage those around me to appreciate nature in a new way?
Photography is a way for me to both live more sustainably, but also show others why we need sustainability in our life. Photography is a way to escape the routine, be aware of my environment and look at nature and people from a different perspective. At the same time, photography is a way to show the beauty of nature and why it is important to take care of it. And sometimes showing can be more convincing than a thousand words.
I regularly photograph for my university’s student newspaper, and that way I can give a voice to the people who demonstrate and protest for a more sustainable world.
How might I, in my daily life, give back to nature and live a more sustainable life?
I’ve asked myself for quite a while now how to change my own life to make it more mindful of nature's resources. As a result, I changed to a more plant-based diet, I decided to use a bicycle and train rather than a car, and I also managed to avoid aeroplanes for a year now. I learned to appreciate and explore the places around me rather than seeking to go far away.
Some of these decisions were easier, some harder, but I managed to create a more sustainable lifestyle without feeling like I’m missing out. Fjällräven Polar will also be a great opportunity for me to learn more about sustainability by learning how to be careful with limited resources, care about the community and make sure to leave nature as untouched as we will find it.
