Lost Pole.

: If an inspiring upcoming photographer asks you for some advice, what would you tell them?

: I would find someone who has the experience, especially with your type of camera and go out with them taking photos, that experience was so valuable to me and helped my photos progress to the next level. I think it's important to put yourself out there to share your photographs with family and friends, as their feedback is really helpful and builds your confidence and style.

That’s it this week for our photographer spotlight. If you enjoyed this interview with John and would like to see me please let me know in the comments below and of course follow .

Three Punts.

: What is your main goto setup, and your favourite one piece of kit?

: It would have to be my favourite 50m 1.4 lens, as it is such a versatile piece of kit. It is great at capturing perspective in a photo, and I like being able to go out with my camera and not have to constantly change the lens depending on the shot.

The Bridge of Sighs, St John’s College.

: Your favourite places to shoot in Cambridge and why?

: I enjoy shooting by the river in Cambridge, as there is a great juxtaposition of imagery. The combination of buildings, nature, people and reflections in the water always turns out to be a winner.

Market Lockdown

: What's your approach when you go out shooting

: Sometimes I get an idea in my mind of what I want to shoot, other times I go out with the camera and see what's out there. My photography is predominantly landscapes, and I often go out to capture sunsets or sunrises as I think the light at these times is fantastic and you can achieve some amazing colours when the sun is low. I leave London very early in the morning to travel to work in Cambridge, and this is when I get the inspiration for my shots.

Milo The Cow.

: How, why, and who inspired you to get into photography?

: I got my first DSLR camera as a present six years ago, and I started going out with a friend who taught me the basics of the camera. My uncle worked in an iconic camera shop in Cambridge, and also advised me on lenses and equipment to help with my photography. I took my camera with me travelling, and my passion for photography progressed being able to capture some iconic landscapes, I taught myself how to use the camera to a professional standard and then advanced onto using a 'Full Frame 'camera. I went on to win a photography competition for my shot of 'Lake Wanaka Tree' in New Zealand, which gave me the confidence to start taking my photography more seriously.

We are pointing our spotlight on local photographer this week. Over the next seven days we will be showcasing some of John's favourite photos of Cambridge and asking him some questions along the way.

: John, please introduce yourself.

: My name is John Scott, and I am a Landscape photographer born and bred in Cambridge, by day I am a Gas and Heating engineer. I currently live in London and commute to Cambridge for work. It wasn't until I got my first camera that I realised what a spectacular city it is to have grown up in, and has inspired my most popular pieces.
