Northern House Wrens (Troglodytes aedon) are small but feisty. Not only will they fight birds larger than them for nest spots, they often win.

For many nature enthusiasts and wildlife conservation activists like myself, Sir David Attenborough’s voice was a lifelong presence echoing throughout my home from my childhood to the present. My own passion for wildlife, photography, and conservation stem back to him. (All wildlife clips in this reel are my own)

Sir David Attenborough continues to be a voice for conservation as the wildlife and ecosystems around us continue to suffer from human-caused actions. Thank you, Sir, for everything you have given us and for continuing to inspire the next generation of people who will leave the world a better place than they found it.

Thank you for the incredible footage of my walking across our Sahara Campsite. And thank you to for the classic footage of me at the end!

This Blue Jay (Cyanocitta cristata) took full advantage of a termite colony releasing it’s swarmers. This swarming is a reproductive effort where mature colonies release specialized, winged adults called alates to disperse and establish new colonies.

🚨Without this independent group of qualified experts in the various fields of science, nearly $9 billion of funding for the National Science Foundation will be allocated by Trump’s best interests instead of the advice of qualified scientists.

🔥As a reminder, Trump’s administration has been consistently anti-science as they deny vaccine efficacy, diminish the need for renewable energy sources, and eagerly decimate our wild spaces for profit with no concern for the ecosystem being destroyed.

⚖️They are confirmed to staggered six-year terms so that scientific research priorities are set by the long arc of scientific progress rather than the election cycle.

💰To members of the committee, this did not come as a surprise, only a disappointment. Trump administration proposed two years in a row to cut the NSF budget by more than half.

Male Song Sparrows (Melospiza melodia) use their song to attract mates as well as defend territory. Laboratory studies have shown that the female Song Sparrow is attracted not just to the song itself, but to how well it reflects the ability of the male to learn.

Raccoons (Procyon lotor) have a long history with indigenous peoples of the Americas. Sioux tribes bestowed names on the raccoon that seem to have been derived from terms meaning “one who is sacred” or “one with magic.” The Aztec term for the raccoon was mapachitli or mapachitl, which translates as “one who takes everything in his hands.”

While most large raptors are seeing a decline across the USA, Red-tailed Hawks (Buteo jamaicensis) are able to thrive in the open, patchily wooded landscapes created by urban and exurban sprawl of human communities given adequate prey opportunity.
