Here’s a few of the findings:

🔥 Wildfires are not more likely to start or spread in areas without roads. In fact, human caused fires occur 3x more often within 250m from roads. It is incorrect to say that roads help to mitigate fires. (Healy 2020; Johnston et al. 2021; Aplet et al. 2026; Mildrexler et al. 2026)

⛰️The connectedness of protected areas has been identified as a critical consideration for sustaining biodiversity. (Gaston et al., 2008; Rayfield et al. 2011; Belote et al., 2016; Saura et al., 2018; Talty et al. 2020)

🦅More than 7 million acres of endangered species critical habitat could be open to road construction, commercial logging and industrial development.

Crows will take on challenges far larger than themselves. Here a Carrion Crow (Corvus corone) continuously dive-bombed a Gray Heron (Ardea cinerea) untill driving it off to further pastures. This may be done for many reasons. Gray Herons will eat just about anything including baby birds so the Crow may have seen them as a threat to a nearby nest.

For many nature enthusiasts and wildlife conservation activists like myself, Sir David Attenborough’s voice was a lifelong presence echoing throughout my home from my childhood to the present. My own passion for wildlife, photography, and conservation stem back to him. (All wildlife clips in this reel are my own)

Sir David Attenborough continues to be a voice for conservation as the wildlife and ecosystems around us continue to suffer from human-caused actions. Thank you, Sir, for everything you have given us and for continuing to inspire the next generation of people who will leave the world a better place than they found it.
