🐝🌼Hoverflies🌼🐝
Hoverflies are crucial pollinators. Their hairy bodies brush against the flower’s stigmas, and pollen is transferred between the fly and the flower. Although they carry less pollen on their bodies than bees, hoverflies compensate by visiting more flowers. Like bumblebees, most hoverflies are generalists and will visit many different types of plants. With a particular preference is thought to be yellow and white flowers.
It is also believed that hoverflies provide critical ecosystem functions, such as crop protection from pests, recycling of organic matter and long-distance pollen transfer.
