‘bare’
self portrait sessions 11/12

it’s not often i post a photo with a bare face or even an unedited one. especially when that photo is a self portrait. it happens on my personal account with a selfie every now and then on my monthly digital scrapbook but it’s a real rarity here.

there’s something to be said about how we’re pressured to have the most perfect everything on an instagram post. recently i’ve seen people post about photos from the kardashian jenners at a party that look completely different to how they look in real life or paparazzi pictures, almost to the point where it’s a bit uncanny valley at times, and people look up to them and think they’re the ideal so you should strive to look like that but the truth is they don’t even look like that.

i wanted to challenge myself to bear all and be bare for this months self portraits, not only in the shoot itself but also in the caption.

in an attempt to be bare i have to tell you this was a very last minute choice, i had the idea on the 24th and shot it on the 26th and was still trying to figure out the edit this morning. i learned my macbook, ipad, and phone all have the photo looking completely different so i was really unmotivated to edit. i chose to go with my phone as the official edit so if the colours look anything less than warm or if the look pink that’s why. for some reason the macbook shows a pink and barely warm photo which is not the vibe i was going for!

i usually edit my skin as i said previously and it was so hard not to touch it this time, i feel like the photos look unfinished because of that but not touching it was the point. i never edit my skin to be plastic looking but i usually smooth it out and remove any so called imperfections.

i haven’t been the biggest fan of some of the self portrait sessions (february and july i’m looking at you) from this year but i made a promise to myself that i would post a set of photos on the last day of every month and somehow i’ve managed it. so many things have gone wrong, even some months with more than one shoot because i couldn’t get my original idea looking good.
