A wee gem in the Forth - Inchcolm Island, just east of the bridge.

Its 12th‑century abbey is one of Scotland’s most complete monastic ruins, founded after King Alexander I took shelter there in a storm. Now looked after by Historic Environment Scotland - a brilliant spot for history lovers.

Oxcars Lighthouse is a 27 meter tall cast iron tower in the Firth of Forth. It was designed by David and Thomas Stevenson and first came into operation on 15th February 1886.

It was originally lit using an oil burner, however, in 1894 it became the first manned Northern Lighthouse Board lighthouse to be converted to automatic operation.

A concrete platform was erected on the rock to house three gas holders, which were replaced every fortnight from the nearby Granton Depot.

The automatic gas light was operated by clockwork and had to be wound up every fortnight when the engineers changed the gas supply. The flame was always alight but its intensity increased during hours of darkness. This mechanism was later replaced with an AGA sun valve.

The original mechanism from the lighthouse can be seen on display at the Museum of Scottish Lighthouses.

Standing at just 23 feet tall, North Queensferry Harbour Light Tower is the smallest lighthouse in the world.

It was built in 1817 by Robert Stevenson - grandfather of Treasure Island author, Robert Louis Stevenson. It guided boats safely across the Firth of Forth until the ferry service closed in the 1960s. It was carefully restored and reopened in 2010 by The Princess Royal and you can now climb the 24 stairs up to the lamp to learn more about it. You can even book to light the Argand lamp to receive a certificate and become part of the light tower's history.

Wow! What a day yesterday was 🤩

Thank you so much to Darren & Christine at Stewartry Fitness Box for putting their trust in me to capture their in house hybrid games event. It was so well organised and I was genuinely blown away by the supportive community you’ve built.

To the competitors, I’m not sure how you’re feeling today but I’m currently relearning how to walk 😂 All jokes aside, the biggest well done to every single one of you. You all absolutely smashed it and should be super proud of yourselves. Thank you for making my job easy too, you were all such a joy to be around and photograph!
