Today's post is a little different from the usual food content...But I came across this fact today and found it fascinating. 2nd June marks 80 years since Italian women cast their vote for the very first time. 🇮🇹
And it feels personal - this is Angela, my grandmother, my namesake. She was just 16 when she left Italy for Manchester, which means she would have had the vote here in the UK years before her sisters back home. When I think about that - and what it meant to those women to hold that ballot paper for the first time - it really makes you reflect.
To vote was not just a right. It was a declaration: I exist, I matter, I am Italy.
Happy June 2nd to every Italian woman - yesterday, today and always. 💚🤍❤️

Amongst all the beautiful BBQ meat for National BBQ Week, I wanted to sneak in something a little greener... 🌿
Asparagus is in season right now, and it's absolutely incredible grilled on the BBQ - that chargrilled flavour is something else. Toss it with leafy greens or watercress, soft-boiled eggs & new potatoes, and finish with a mustardy or lemony dressing. Add bacon or chorizo if you fancy it, but honestly, it doesn't need it.
