After a lot of thought, reflection, and some very difficult conversations, we want to share that Raven Photography will be closing.
This business has been part of our lives for 17 years. It began with Jenna, and for the past 10 years has been run together by Jenna and Nat. In that time, Raven Photography grew into something far bigger than we ever imagined, and we were incredibly lucky to work with thousands of people, families, horses, and moments that genuinely mattered.
We have watched children grow up, ponies grow old, and young riders develop into accomplished competitors, including riding at the highest levels. Many of you returned to us time and time again, trusted us with important moments, and treated us with kindness and respect. That loyalty has meant everything.
💥First and most importantly, any weddings or bookings already confirmed will be honoured exactly as agreed. Nothing changes for those clients. We will see those commitments through with the same care and professionalism as always.💥
The Raven Photography website will close on 31 January, so please make sure you have downloaded your images and backed them up safely. If you would like to order any prints or canvases, now is the time to do so before the site closes.
There are several reasons behind this decision.
On one side, Raven Photography has been supported by some truly wonderful clients. People who understood the work, respected the process, and valued what they were booking. Working with you has been a genuine pleasure, and we are deeply grateful for every kind message, recommendation, and repeat booking.
On the other side, the past few years have brought an increasing number of experiences that have been mentally and emotionally draining. Clients who did not read bookings or contracts, who expected far more than they had agreed to, or who were rude, demanding, or dismissive. Dealing with entitlement and hostility towards creative work is no longer something we are willing to accept or carry.
Another major factor in closing Raven Photography is our decision to step away from the horse industry as a whole.
Horses increasingly seem to fall through the welfare cracks between pets and livestock. We are not talking about obvious abuse, but about the everyday practices that have become normalised. Unqualified and unregulated trainers, saddle fitters, barefoot trimmers, producers, instructors, and therapists operating without accreditation, insurance, oversight, or accountability. Welfare is spoken about constantly, yet rarely enforced.
Watching high-level equine sport has also become increasingly difficult. Poor conformation, questionable riding, and practices that prioritise results over welfare are often rewarded and defended. The buying and selling of horses has become increasingly transactional, with animals transported long distances, minimal welfare checks, and little consequence when standards are ignored.
Horses are living beings. They feel pain, stress, fear, and confusion, just as clearly as any animal we would never tolerate treating this way. Witnessing this day in, day out has taken a toll, and we no longer want our work tied to an industry that has, quite frankly, drained us.
So we are bowing out.
We are not retiring our cameras or our creativity. We are simply moving forward.
Jenna is continuing her work through The Red Haired Stokie, focusing on storytelling, history, photography, and art.
Nat is continuing her work through Envy Autos, building her business and focusing on the work she is passionate about.
Together, we are also moving forward with The Staffordshire Signal, working collaboratively on a project that brings together good local journalism, culture, events, and community stories across Staffordshire.
To everyone who has supported Raven Photography over the years, thank you. This business would not have existed for 17 years without you.
