Just after Xmas I bought a new to me mirrorless camera. (Pictured below!) I intended to shoot 4x5 film, but when looking into the prices of 4x5 enlargers I’ve put that off for a while! So what does one decided to do.. well Tintype/wet plate photography of course! So after watching a few YouTube vids and a chat with a few people I thought this is the way forward. 2 weeks ago my chemistry turned up and I began the process of teaching myself. I had taken this way to lightly and was in for a steep 2 week learning curve and quite a bit of frustration. Then yesterday happened where it all seemed to come together and I got half decent images. It’s amazing to think that this has been around since the 1850’s and is now becoming popular again. It’s a very cool thing to do.. but you need time and patience, I made almost every error possible to make but I feel I’ve learned from them and I’m hoping to push forward. I need to slowly add in more lighting now as I only used one light for these though it is a 3200ws I’d like to add a hair light and so on. Tintype is roughly ISO 0.75 so big light is required tgd best thing to use would be the sun but let’s not forget I’m in England!
