For my one of MA projects I am working in a collaborative group with some of the students in my class. We have been asked to create and run an event with people external to the university. For our project we have decided to look at the power of words in relation to Disability, Menopause and marginalised groups.

Our question is what one word do you think of for each group?. I.e misunderstood for Disability. PM us your words to help us develop our project and watch this space for images to come!

This Project was undertaken as part of my Master's project, Since the pandemic began more and more masks are being used. In June 2020 masks became a mandatory part of life and since that point it is estimated that 53 million masks are being discarded a day in the UK alone. On my daily walks during the second lockdown I started noticing an increased amount of masks on the floor and decided to include it in my pollution series that is currently underway and will soon be up on my site to see.

These disposable masks are made up of three layers of plastic and take over 400 years to decompose, many of which will end up in our oceans and effecting the marine life.

Each gallery is from a different walk, some days finding in the region of 25+ masks on a 4 mile walk, which in the grand scale of things is an absolutely shocking amount.

my current and first Masters project is looking at people who have struggled throughout lockdown due to mental health or disabilities, I took a slightly unconventional approach to the first shoot.

my subject here likes the fact the mask is dehumanising, he says it makes him feel at ease because he can hide under it, something he wishes he could do some days as he struggles on a day to day basis with his mental health which lockdown made much worse. The corn makes him feel lost like he does at times and how the lockdown made him feel when everyone had to cut ties socially.

Alex suffered necrotizing enterocolitis as a premature baby and was given a 5% survival rate.

Nectotizing Enterocolitis is a medical condition where a portion of the bowel dies, typically occurs in new borns that are either premature or otherwise unwell. As a result of this, Alex has had part of his large intestine removed, resulting in the scar across his lower abdomen
