We’ve wanted to take him to the rainforest since the day he was born.
Not really for us. For him. There’s something magical about the rainforest - the size of it, the sound of it, the way it makes you feel very small. We wanted him to feel it for himself, not just hear about from us. We just had to wait until he was old enough for it to actually land.
Watching him so easily embrace the ‘pura vida’ way of life, noticing the tracks in the mud, spotting the camouflaged lizards, seeing his face light up on seeing an anteater - felt exactly like what we’d hoped for.
You can’t manufacture that kind of wonder. You can only put someone in the conditions for it and get out of the way.
This was my third time in Costa Rica and it’s still the most special place I know. I came home exhausted, thrilled to be back in my own bed, and still no closer to loving bugs. Entirely worth it.
